Australian Formula One Drivers
There have been 19 Formula One drivers from Australia, 16 of whom have taken part in at least one race since the championship began in 1950, and 3 failed to qualify. Two drivers who represented Australia have won the World Drivers' Championship: Jack Brabham, who won it three times, and Alan Jones, the most recent Australian world champion won once. Two drivers have participated in the current season. Current drivers Oscar Piastri made his Formula One debut for McLaren at the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix. He achieved his first podium at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix, and his maiden victory at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix. 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024) was a Formula One motor race that was held on 8 December 2024 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It was the twenty-fourth and final race of the 2024 Formula One World Championship. Lando Norris of McLaren took pole position for the race, which he then proceeded to convert to a victory. Norris' victory helped his team take their ninth World Constructors' Championship title, and the first since . Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. came in second in his last race for Ferrari ahead of his teammate, Charles Leclerc. This was the final Formula One race for Valtteri Bottas, Zhou Guanyu, Sergio Pérez, and Kevin Magnussen. Nelson Piquet
Nelson Piquet Souto Maior (, born 17 August 1952) is a Brazilian former racing driver and businessman, who competed in Formula One from to . Piquet won three Formula One World Drivers' Championship titles, which he won in , , and , and won 23 Formula One Grands Prix, Grands Prix across 14 seasons. Piquet had a brief career in tennis before losing interest in the sport and subsequently took up karting and hid his identity to prevent his father discovering his hobby. He became the Brazilian national karting champion in 1971–72 and won the Formula Vee Brazil championship in 1976. With advice from Emerson Fittipaldi, Piquet went to Europe to further success by taking the record number of wins in Formula Three in 1978, beating Jackie Stewart's all-time record. In the same year, he made his Formula One debut with the Ensign team and drove for McLaren and Brabham. Carlos Reutemann
Carlos Alberto "Lole" Reutemann (12 April 1942 – 7 July 2021) was an Argentine racing driver and politician, who competed in Formula One from to and served as the Governor of Santa Fe from 1999 to 2003. Reutemann was runner-up in the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in with Williams and—at the time of his retirement—held the record for most podium finishes (45); he won 12 Grands Prix across 11 seasons. A member of the Justicialist Party, he was a National Senator for Santa Fe from 2003 until his death in 2021. As a racing driver, Reutemann was among Formula One's leading protagonists between 1972 and 1982. He scored 12 Grand Prix wins and six pole positions. 1977 Austrian Grand Prix
The 1977 Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at the Österreichring on 14 August 1977. It was the twelfth race of the 1977 World Championship of F1 Drivers and the 1977 International Cup for F1 Constructors. Since the previous year's race, the Hella-Licht corner had been converted to a fast chicane, thus increasing the length of the circuit to . The race was held over 54 laps of the circuit for a race distance of . The race was won by Australian driver and future World Champion, Alan Jones, driving a Shadow- Ford. It was Jones's first Formula One victory, and the only victory for the Shadow team in its eight-year F1 history. Tom Pryce
Thomas Maldwyn Pryce (11 June 1949 – 5 March 1977) was a British racing driver from Wales, who competed in Formula One from to . Pryce started his career in Formula One with the small Token team, making his only start for them at the 1974 Belgian Grand Prix. Shortly after winning the Formula Three support race for the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix, Pryce joined the Shadow team and scored his first points in Germany in only his fourth race. He later claimed two podium finishes, his first in Austria in 1975 and the second in Brazil a year later. He won the non-championship Race of Champions in 1975, becoming the first—and to this date, only—Welsh driver win a Formula One race; he also became the first Welsh driver to lead a Grand Prix, as well as the first to achieve a pole position, at the 1975 British Grand Prix. Surtees Racing Organisation
The Surtees Racing Organisation was a race team that spent nine seasons (1970 to 1978) as a constructor in Formula One, Formula 2, and Formula 5000. History The team was formed by John Surtees, a four-time List of Grand Prix motorcycle racing World Champions by year, 500cc motorcycle champion and the 1964 List of Formula One World Drivers' Champions, Formula One champion in 1966 to compete in the newly formed Canadian-American Challenge Cup (CanAm) "unlimited" sports car racing series. Entering as an owner/driver, Surtees won the championship in its first year, driving a Lola T70.
