Alcorcón () is a city and municipality of Spain located in the Community of Madrid. As of 2022, it had a population of 170,296. Geography The municipality, largely flat, lies at an average altitude of 711 metres above sea level, with the highest point being El Ventorro del Cano (741 m), located in the north of the municipality. History The site appears to have been inhabited since prehistoric times. The name is of Arabic origin, but little is known of Alcorcón before the Reconquista. The first recorded written reference to Alcorcón is in a court document (') dated on 28 July 1208, in the context of the territorial strife over between the city councils of Madrid and Segovia that took place in the Middle Ages. The parish church, Santa María la Blanca dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Alcorcón preserved an urban structure characteristic of a small rural settlement until the 1960s. Line 10 (Madrid Metro)
Line 10 of the Madrid Metro is a rapid transit line in Madrid that is actually the product of two formerly separate lines. Today the route begins at (San Sebastián de los Reyes) and ends at (Alcorcón). Passengers must transfer at between the "line 10A" segment, which covers the portion of the route south of the station, and "line 10B," which extends north to Hospital Infanta Sofía. Line 12, also known as MetroSur (Spanish for "MetroSouth"), is a circle line of the Madrid Metro inaugurated on 11 April 2003. Eurovegas was a gambling resort megaproject proposed in September 2012, to be completed in 2025 or 2026 in Alcorcón, Spain. The project was cancelled after disagreements between the entrepreneur, Sheldon Adelson, and the local governments. In September 2012 Sheldon Adelson proposed a major investment in Europe after he and his team had been in discussions with government officials in Madrid and Barcelona. Finally, Las Vegas Sands Corp. announced Madrid had been chosen as the destination for the gambling resort project dubbed "EuroVegas". C-5 (Cercanías Madrid)
The C-5 is a commuter rail service in the Community of Madrid. It is part of the Cercanías Madrid network, operated by Renfe Operadora. Line C-5 runs from Móstoles El Soto to Humanes, passing through the cities of Móstoles, Alcorcón, Madrid, Leganés and Fuenlabrada. Unlike the rest of the Cercanías network, line C-5 more closely resemble the lines of the Madrid Metro rather than a commuter line. The service operates 4-minute headways during the morning rush hours, and 6-8 minute headways during the afternoons. On weekends and holidays, the line operates on a 10-minute frequency.
