Against Me!
Against Me! is an American punk rock band, formed in 1997 in Naples, Florida, by singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace. That same year, Grace moved to Gainesville, Florida, which is considered the band's hometown. Since 2001, the band's lineup has also included guitarist James Bowman (musician), James Bowman. After releasing three studio albums through independent record labels, Against Me! moved to Sire Records for 2007's ''New Wave (Against Me! album), New Wave'', which reached no. 57 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200. In 2011, the band launched the record label Total Treble. In 2012, Grace publicly coming out, came out as a trans woman. After a long period of line-up changes and uncertainty surrounding the band's future, their sixth studio album, ''Transgender Dysphoria Blues,'' was released independently in January 2014 to critical and commercial acclaim. Laura Jane Grace
Laura Jane Grace (born Thomas James Gabel; November 8, 1980) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the founder, lead singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist of the punk rock band Against Me!. In addition to Against Me!, Grace fronts the band Laura Jane Grace & the Devouring Mothers, a solo project she started in 2016. Grace is notable for being one of the first highly visible punk rock musicians to publicly come out as transgender, which she did in May 2012. She released her first solo studio album since transitioning, '' Stay Alive'', in 2020, followed by '' Hole in My Head'' in 2024. South By Southwest
South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas. It began in 1987 and has continued growing in both scope and size every year. Inge Johansson
Inge Rolf Johansson () (born May 10, 1977) is a Swedish musician. He is best known for his time playing bass in bands such as Against Me! and The (International) Noise Conspiracy, of which he was a founding member. Before forming The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Johansson was one of the many bass players that played in hardcore band Refused. ''Against Me!'', more commonly known as ''Tom's Demo Tape'', or simply the ''First Demo'', is a demo album and the first release by Laura Jane Grace under the name Against Me! in June 1997. ''Transgender Dysphoria Blues'' is the sixth studio album by American punk rock band Against Me!, released on January 21, 2014 by Total Treble Music and Xtra Mile Recordings. The album deals with gender dysphoria, following Laura Jane Grace's gender transition and coming out. Recording and production The band Against Me! first announced work on a new album in November 2011. The first sessions for the album were a false start, where the band started recording some basic tracks and then went on tour, and decided to scrap and start over when they got back from tour. Then, the record was completely recorded except for vocals when drummer Jay Weinberg quit the band. The band first tried to have fill-in drummer Atom Willard record drum tracks to match the previously recorded tracks, but it wasn't working. ''New Wave'' is Against Me!'s fourth full-length studio album and their debut album on Sire Records. Produced by Butch Vig of ''Nevermind'' fame, it was released on July 10, 2007. The album's first single, "White People for Peace", was released in May 2007, prior to the album's release. A second single, "Thrash Unreal", followed in July 2007. The album was #1 on ''Spin Magazine''s Album of the Year and #9 on ''Rolling Stone''s list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007.
