Aa en Hunze () is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. Eexterveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 17 km east of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1479 as Egesteruene, and means "raised bog belonging to Eext". Eext
Eext is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 12 km east of Assen. There are three ''hunebedden'' (dolmen) near the village. History The village was first mentioned in 1309 as "in villis Esethe". The etymology is unclear. Eext is an ''esdorp'' from the Early Middle Ages which is located on the Hondsrug. It has been known to exist as early as 944. It has one large ''brink'' (village square) on the south side and four smaller ''brinks'' on the north side. The Dutch Reformed church is a simple neoclassical church from 1841. The peat around Eext has been excavated in the 18th century, and around 1875, the heaths were cultivated. Eext was home to 425 people in 1840. Eext used to have a railway station on the Gasselternijveen to Assen railway between 1905 and 1947. Deurze
Deurze is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 4 km southeast of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1259 as "curtem Durse". The etymology is unclear. Bonnen, Netherlands
Bonnen () is a hamlet in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, in the province of Drenthe. It is located directly east of Gieten and north of the hamlet of Achter 't Hout. Geography The western part of the hamlet has grown together with the village of Gieten, under which the hamlet falls administratively. The hamlet is also largely within the village core of Gieten. The municipality of Aa en Hunze no longer keeps separate population figures for Bonnen. The hamlet is situated on the edge of the Hondsrug. When leaving Bonnen in the direction of Gieterveen, the difference in level between the sand, the Hondsrug, and the former peat area is immediately noticeable. Bareveld
Bareveld (; ) is a Dutch village on the border of the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The Drenthe part of the village belongs to the municipality of Aa en Hunze, the Groningen part of the village has been added to the municipality of Veendam. It is located on the N33, in between the linear villages of Eexterveenschekanaal and Nieuwediep. The Groningen part has 380 inhabitants (2004) and is administratively part of the built-up area of the village of Wildervank, and is therefore no longer always seen as a real part of Bareveld. Balloërveld or Ballooërveld () is a hamlet in the municipality of Aa en Hunze in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. Balloërveld owes its name to the nearby village of Balloo. Annerveenschekanaal is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 18 km east of Assen. Annen
Annen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Located in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, it lies about 12 km (7.4 mi) northeast of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1309 as Anne. The etymology is unknown. Annen is an ''esdorp'' without a church which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug. It was a large triangular ''brink'' (village square) in the south-western corner of the village. The town hall of the municipality of Anloo used to be located in Annen. It is a wide neoclassic building from 1895 which also contained the residential home of the mayor. Annen was home to 419 people in 1840. The Reformed Church was built in 1954.
