APOEL Basketball Club, also known as APOEL PERESTROIKA for sponsorship reasons and better known simply as APOEL, is a Cypriot professional basketball club based in the city of Nicosia. It is a part of the APOEL multi-sport club. APOEL is one of the most successful basketball clubs in Cyprus with an overall tally of 11 Championships, 12 Cups and 11 Super Cups. History APOEL was formed in 1926, but the basketball team was formed in 1947. The team's first ever basketball title was the Cypriot Super Cup, which they won in 1972. At the end of the same season (1972–73), APOEL won their second title, the Cypriot Cup. The team achieved to win their first ever Championship title three years later, in season 1975–76. Cyprus Basketball Division A
The OPAP Basket League is currently the top-tier level men's professional basketball competition of the Cypriot basketball league system. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. Format All teams are playing against each other for the first part of the league, with the top 4 teams reaching the play-off semi-finals stage. One team (the last one) at the end of the season is relegated to the second division, whilst one team from the second division is promoted. The play-off semi-finals and the championship winner will be decided after three wins. The championship winner, along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup, will qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's European-wide continental competitions. 2010–11 Eurocup Basketball was the ninth edition of Europe's second-tier level transnational competition for men's professional basketball clubs, the EuroCup. The EuroCup is the European-wide league level that is one tier below the EuroLeague level. Kyle Johnson (basketball)
Kyle Johnson (born 31 December 1988) is a Canadian-born British basketball player for the Caledonia Gladiators of the British Basketball League (BBL). Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Johnson played for West Hill Collegiate Institute before enrolling to LIU Brooklyn to play college basketball. College career Coming from West Hill Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Johnson's college career spanned four seasons, where he averaged 11.6 points per game whilst making a Long Island University record 124 appearances. As a freshman, he was named in the NEC all-rookie team. Stephen Ogooluwa "Ogo" Adegboye (born 23 September 1987) is a Nigerian-British professional basketball player who last played for London Lions of the British Basketball League (BBL). Early life Born in Nigeria, Adegboye moved to London at the age of three. He played with the Brixton Topcats of the English Basketball League, before moving to the US to attend Findlay College Prep. College career Adegboye spent two seasons with Lamar Community College in Colorado, where he averaged 11.1 points and 3.2 assists per game, before transferring to St. Bonaventure University, where he played with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. Michael Benoît Mokongo (born July 11, 1986) is a former professional basketball player. International career Mokongo first represented the Central African Republic internationally at the 2009 AfroBasket qualifying tournament. He played for the country at the 2011 AfroBasket, averaging 11 points and a team-high 6 assists. Cirill Makanda-Etogo (born 5 May 1980) is a Cameroonian-Russian former professional basketball player. Throughout his ten-year professional career, he has played for four teams in Russia, plus teams in Germany and France before joining APOEL B.C. in Cyprus for the 2008–09 season. EuroLeague
The EuroLeague is a European men's professional basketball club competition. The league is widely recognised as the top-tier and the most prestigious men's basketball league in Europe. The league consists of 20 teams, of which 16 are given long-term licences and wild cards, making the league a semi-closed league. The league was first organized by FIBA in 1958, subsequently by ULEB in 2000 and then solely by Euroleague Basketball. The competition was introduced in 1958 as the FIBA European Champions Cup (renamed the FIBA EuroLeague in 1996), which operated under FIBA's umbrella until Euroleague Basketball was created for the 2000–01 season. The FIBA Korać Cup was an annual basketball club competition held by FIBA Europe between the 1971–72 and 2001–02 seasons. FIBA EuroCup Challenge
The FIBA EuroCup Challenge was the 4th-tier level transnational professional continental club basketball competition in Europe, organised by FIBA Europe. However, it was Europe's 3rd-tier level club basketball competition in its inaugural 2002–03 season. The competition was founded in 2003, following a conflict between FIBA Europe and ULEB during the 2001–02 season, as an attempt by FIBA to expand their secondary tournament held during the previous season, the FIBA Europe Regional Challenge Cup, by merging it with the FIBA Europe Champions Cup. The 2007-08 FIBA EuroCup was the fifth season of FIBA's European professional competition and the last under the name ''EuroCup'' which is now used for the formerly known ULEB Cup. The competition - which was renamed the FIBA EuroChallenge in July 2008- featured 38 competing teams, from 23 different countries following the abolishment of the FIBA EuroCup Challenge in 2007.
