2023–24 AHL Season
The 2023–24 AHL season was the 88th season of the American Hockey League. The regular season began on October 13, 2023, and ended on April 21, 2024. The 2024 Calder Cup playoffs followed the conclusion of the regular season, and ended on June 24, with the Hershey Bears winning their 13th Calder Cup in franchise history. League changes For the first time since the 1994–95 season, the league featured an unaffiliated team, with the Chicago Wolves ending their affiliation with the Carolina Hurricanes. It only lasted one season; the two clubs announced on May 2, 2024, a new three-year agreement where the Wolves would rejoin the Hurricanes' system. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league in North America that serves as the primary developmental league of the National Hockey League (NHL). The league comprises 32 teams, with 26 in the United States and 6 in Canada. As of the 2024–25 AHL season, all 32 NHL teams held affiliations with an AHL team. Historically, when an NHL team does not have an AHL affiliate, its players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL franchises. The league offices are located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and its current president is Scott Howson. A player must be at least 18 years old and not belong to a junior ice hockey team to be eligible. Rochester Americans
The Rochester Americans (colloquially known as the Amerks) are a professional ice hockey team based in Rochester, New York. They are the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres. The team plays its home games at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The Americans are the fourth oldest franchise in the AHL, and have the second longest continuous tenure among AHL teams in their current locations after the Hershey Bears. Rochester was awarded a new franchise in June 1956, when the Pittsburgh Hornets were forced to suspend operations after their arena, the Duquesne Gardens was razed in an urban renewal project. Aaron Schneekloth
Aaron Schneekloth (born July 15, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who later moved into coaching within the Colorado Avalanche organization, serving as head coach of their American Hockey League affiliate. On June 17, 2025, he joined the Seattle Kraken as an assistant coach. Playing career He is best known for his lengthy and impactful tenure with the Colorado Eagles, during which he competed in both the Central Hockey League (CHL) and later the ECHL after the franchise transitioned leagues. By the time he retired, he had cemented himself in the team's record books, ranking second in franchise history with an impressive 382 games played. Greg Cronin
Greg Cronin (born June 2, 1963) is an American professional ice hockey coach who most recently served as the head coach for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Coaching career Cronin began his career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Colby College in 1987–88 and then became a graduate assistant at the University of Maine from 1988 to 1990, then as an assistant for Colorado College from 1990 to 1993. He returned to Maine to be an assistant coach from 1993 to 1995 and was named interim head coach following a scandal that banished head coach Shawn Walsh from the bench for one year in 1995–96, leading the Black Bears to the Hockey East championship game in 1996 where they lost to Providence College, 3–2. Colorado Eagles
The Colorado Eagles are a professional ice hockey team based in Loveland, Colorado. The Eagles play in the Pacific Division of the American Hockey League. The Eagles were founded as an expansion franchise in 2003 in the Central Hockey League and remained in the league until June 2011, when they joined the ECHL. During their time in the CHL, the Eagles won two Ray Miron President's Cups, three regular season titles, five conference titles and six division titles in eight seasons. Bob Nardella
Robert Nardella, Jr (born February 2, 1968) is an Italian-American former professional ice hockey defenseman who is the former head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL). Following his NCAA career with Ferris State University, Nardella competed in the Italian Hockey League, Deutsche Eishockey Liga, International Hockey League, and American Hockey League. During his career, he played for the Alleghe Hockey, Chicago Wolves, Adler Mannheim, Quad City Mallards, Milano Vipers, and Rockford IceHogs. Brock Sheahan
Brock Sheahan (born May 6, 1984) is a Canadian former ice hockey player and the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's ice hockey team. Playing career Sheahan played his college ice hockey at Notre Dame from 2004 to 2008. He recorded four goals and 29 assists in 161 games. He served as alternate captain his senior year, and helped lead the Irish to the Frozen Four for the first time in program history. Trent Cull (born September 27, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently serving as the head coach of the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Previously, Cull served as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Mitchell Ryan Love (born June 15, 1984) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who is currently serving as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL).
