2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series
The 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, was the 20th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999–2000. This series also, for the second time, doubled as a qualifier for the 2020 Summer Olympics, with the top four countries qualifying automatically. Fiji finished first in the Series, winning five of the ten tournaments. The United States finished in a best-ever second place, reaching the semifinals in all ten tournaments. The relegation battle was a three-way competition going into the final rounds involving Japan, Kenya, and Wales, with Japan finishing last to be relegated from the Series next season. Andrew Knewstubb
Andrew Knewstubb (born 14 September 1995) is a New Zealand professional rugby union player who plays as a back for the New Zealand national sevens team. International career He won gold medal with the New Zealand team in the men's rugby sevens tournament during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He was also a key member of the New Zealand side which won the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament by defeating England 33-12 in the final. He was named in the New Zealand squad to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the men's rugby sevens tournament. He was also part of the New Zealand side which claimed silver medal after losing to Fiji 24-12 at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The 2019 Singapore Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament played at the National Stadium in Singapore on 13–14 April 2019. It was the eighth edition of the Singapore Sevens and the eighth tournament of the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series. In the cup final, it was South Africa who took out their second Singapore title after they defeated Fiji by a single point. Third was England after they defeated United States by 21 points. France won the challenge trophy after defeating Scotland in the final. The 2019 Hong Kong Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Hong Kong Stadium between the 5–7 April 2019. It was the 44th edition of the Hong Kong Sevens, and the seventh tournament of the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series. Sixteen teams competed in the main tournament, while a further twelve competed in a qualifier tournament with the winner getting core team status for the 2019–20 World Rugby Sevens Series. BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The 2019 Canada Sevens was the fourth edition of the Canada Sevens tournament, and the sixth tournament of the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series. The 2019 USA Sevens (also sometimes referred to as the 2019 Las Vegas Sevens) is the sixteenth edition of the USA Sevens tournament, and the sixth tournament of the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series. The tournament was played March 1–3, 2019 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. In January 2019, it was reported that the 2019 USA Sevens would be the last in Las Vegas, with the event moving to an unknown city starting from 2020.
