2017–18 ABL Season
The 2017–18 ABL season is the eighth season of competition of the ASEAN Basketball League. The regular season started on 17 November 2017 and ended on 28 March 2018. Teams Five teams from the 2016–2017 ABL season returned for this season. One team, the Kaohsiung Truth, disbanded prior to the season. One team, Mono Vampire, returned after skipping last season, having played in the 2015–16 ABL season. The team plans to concurrently play in the ABL and in the Thailand Basketball League for the upcoming season. Three teams were accepted as new members: Nanhai Long-Lions, Formosa Dreamers and CLS Knights Surabaya. The Long-Lions are the developmental team of the Guangzhou Long-Lions, the Dreamers are an expansion team from Taiwan, and the Knights left the Indonesian Basketball League to play in the ABL. Thailand Basketball League
The Thailand Basketball League (TBL) () is a men's professional basketball league in Thailand. The lower competitions are the TBL Division 2 and Division 3. Hi-Tech is the most decorated team in the league history. History The Thailand Basketball League was started in 2012 by the Basketball Sport Association of Thailand to develop basketball players in Thailand. Teams are composed of both Thai and foreign players. In 2012 and 2013 teams were allowed to use 2 foreigner players on the court at the same time, but, in 2014, teams can have only 1 foreign player on the court at a time. The Saigon Heat is a Vietnamese professional basketball team based in Ho Chi Minh City. Since the 2014 season, the Heat's home games are played at the CIS Arena on the campus of the Canadian International School in District 7. This is the first professional basketball team based in Vietnam. The Heat currently plays in the VBA, Vietnam's first professional basketball league. Singapore Slingers
The Singapore Slingers are a Singaporean professional basketball team that last competed in the ASEAN Basketball League. The Slingers were known as the JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers between 2009 and 2014, due to sponsorship ties with JobStreet.com. The Slingers formerly competed in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL), becoming the first – and so far, the only – Asia-based club to compete in the NBL when they joined at the start of the 2006–07 NBL season. They withdrew from the competition in July 2008, with their decision influenced by the financial costs of travelling. ABS-CBN Sports
ABS-CBN Sports was a sports division of the Philippine media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corporation, which aired some of the notable sporting events in the Philippines. San Miguel Beer refers to San Miguel Pale Pilsen, a Filipino pale lager and flagship beer of the San Miguel Brewery. Tanduay Distillers, Inc. () is a Philippine alcoholic beverage company founded in 1854. It is a subsidiary of LT Group, a conglomerate owned by Filipino business magnate Lucio Tan. As of 2021, it is the world's largest rum brand. History Tanduay traces its origins to a distillery in Hagonoy, Bulacan originally owned by Elías Menchatorre. CLS Knights Indonesia
BTN CLS Knights Indonesia is a basketball club based in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia that plays in the ASEAN Basketball League. Their home games are played at GOR Kertajaya Surabaya. The Guangzhou Loong Lions () are a Chinese professional basketball team based in Guangzhou, Guangdong. They play in the Southern Division of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). History The team was founded in November 2000 as Shaanxi Gaitianli Kylins by the Xi'an Dongsheng Group. In August 2001, they won the "B" league championship, and were promoted to the CBA.
