A general election was held in the U.S. state of Oregon on November 8, 2016. Primary elections were held on May 17, 2016. Oregon ( , ) is a U.S. state, state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is a part of the Western U.S., with the Columbia River delineating much of Oregon's northern boundary with Washington (state), Washington, while the Snake River delineates much of its eastern boundary with Idaho. 2002 United States Senate Election In Oregon
The 2002 United States Senate election in Oregon was held on November 5, 2002. Incumbent Republican United States Senator Gordon Smith ran for re-election to a second term. Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury emerged as the Democratic nominee, and though a competitive gubernatorial election occurred at the same time, Bradbury's campaign was never able to gain traction and Smith overwhelmingly won re-election (Bradbury only carried Multnomah County). As of , this is the last time the Republicans have won a U.S. Senate election in Oregon. Along with Maine and New Mexico, this was one of the three Republican-held Senate seats up for election in a state that Al Gore won in the 2000 presidential election. The ''Portland Tribune'' is a weekly newspaper published every Wednesday in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is part of the Pamplin Media Group, which publishes a number of community newspapers in the Portland metropolitan area. Launched in 2001, the paper was published twice weekly until 2008, when it was reduced to weekly. It returned to twice-weekly publication in 2014 and was again reduced to weekly publication in 2020. The ''News-Register'' is a newspaper published in McMinnville, Oregon, United States. It is a weekly community newspaper serving McMinnville and the surrounding Yamhill Valley. The News-Register Publishing Co. and parent holding company Oregon Lithoprint, Inc. are a closely held corporation owned by members of the Bladine family of McMinnville. History Predecessor companies The ''News-Register'' has origins in several Yamhill County newspaper companies dating to 1866. The earliest of these companies, the ''Lafayette Courier'' began publishing in 1866. By 1872 the newspaper had moved to McMinnville, anticipating the 1889 vote to move the county seat from Lafayette to McMinnville, and become the ''Yamhill County Reporter''. Mail Tribune
The ''Mail Tribune'' was a seven-day daily newspaper based in Medford, Oregon, United States that served Jackson County, Oregon, and adjacent areas of Josephine County, Oregon and northern California. The paper ceased operations on January 13, 2023. The closure was announced by Rosebud Media, the paper's owner, two days prior. Its coverage area centered on Medford and Ashland and included many small communities in Jackson County. The newspaper also covered Central Point, Talent, Eagle Point, Grants Pass and Phoenix, as well as Jacksonville and other cities in the Rogue Valley. History In 1888, Thomas Harlan founded the ''Mail'' in Medford, Oregon. He was followed as publisher by Newell Harlan in 1890, Felix G. Kertson in 1891 and possibly at some point Ira Phelps. A. S. The ''East Oregonian'' is a weekly newspaper published in Pendleton, Oregon, United States and covering Umatilla and Morrow counties. ''EO'' is owned by EO Media Group and is the newspaper of record for Umatilla County. History M.P. Bull first published the ''East Oregonian'' on Oct. 16, 1875. It was a weekly Democratic newspaper serving Pendleton, Oregon. At that time the population was around 250. Bull used a Washington hand press to print the first issue. He previously lived in Portland and decided to name his paper in reference to ''The Oregonian''. This caused some people to link the two, although they're unrelated. Bull, a member of the Oregon Bar, was in poor health and sold the paper to lawyer J. H. Turner, who bought it out of concern of the paper falling into Republican hands. ''The Bulletin'' is a newspaper in Bend, Oregon, United States. ''The Bulletin'' is owned by EO Media Group. History Establishment To start a newspaper in Bend, a printing press and other publishing equipment items were brought overland from the railhead at Shaniko by freight wagon. The ''Bend Bulletin'' was first published as a weekly newspaper on March 27, 1903. At the time, Bend was a mere hamlet in what was then part of Crook County. The newspaper was founded by Max Lueddemann, who at the time operated the ''Antelope Herald'' in Antelope. He served as the newspaper's first publisher with Don P. Rea serving as the first editor. Elizabeth Katharine "Betsy" Johnson (born January 12, 1951) is an American aviator, entrepreneur, and politician who served in the Oregon House of Representatives from the 1st and 31st House districts from 2001 to 2005, and in the Oregon Senate from the 16th district from 2005 to 2021, as a member of the Democratic Party.
