Elections were held in Minnesota on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Primary elections took place on August 10, 2010. Federal United States House All eight seats in the United States House of Representatives are up for election in 2010. All eight incumbents will be seeking re-election. United States Senate Minnesota's two senators are not up for election in 2010. State Statewide offices in Minnesota, including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Auditor are up for election in 2010. Governor Incumbent Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, is retiring from office after two terms. Candidates seeking to replace Pawlenty include State Rep. Tom Emmer, R- Delano; ; Former Sen. Dan Severson
Daniel Mark Severson (born August 31, 1954) is a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives who represented District 14A, which includes portions of Benton County, Minnesota, Benton and Stearns County, Minnesota, Stearns counties in the north central part of the state. He is a retired U.S. Navy fighter pilot, business owner, and substitute teacher. Early life, education, and military service Severson graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, St. Cloud in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts, B.A. in Physics. He was a Navy fighter pilot, officer and commander from 1978 to 2000. Severson enlisted in the Navy in 1978 at the age of 21. Severson was in the Navy for 22 years, most of those years as a Strike-Fighter Pilot.
