2007–08 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 2007–08 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was a multi-race tournament over the season for cross-country skiers. It was the 27th official FIS Cross-Country World Cup, World Cup season in cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began on 27 October 2007 with 800m sprint races for women in Düsseldorf, won by Natalia Matveeva of Russia, who took her first World Cup victory. The season concluded with 2007–08 FIS Cross-Country World Cup Finals, World Cup Finals, a mini-tour held in Bormio, Italy. Finnish skier Virpi Kuitunen won the overall women's cup for the 2nd consecutive season and Lukáš Bauer of Czech Republic won the overall men's cup. The World Cup is organised by the International Ski Federation, FIS who also run world cups and championships in ski jumping, snowboarding and alpine skiing amongst others. International Ski Federation
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation, also known as FIS (), is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. It was previously known as the International Ski Federation () until 26 May 2022 when the name was changed to include snowboard. Founded on 2 February 1924 in Chamonix, France during the 1924 Winter Olympics, inaugural Winter Olympic Games, FIS is responsible for the Winter Olympic Games, Olympic skiing disciplines, namely Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding. Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi () is a high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there are over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes (of which 100 km are safari organizers' private routes). Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The total of trails in Ruka and Kuusamo area is: 160 km of hiking trails, 605 km of biking routes, 350 km of classified paddling routes (including class 1–4 whitewater paddling) and 100 km of boating routes. In winter 1954, the first slope, now called "Eturinne" ("Front Slope"), was opened. The current number of slopes is 41, operated with 21 ski lifts (three high-speed detachable chair with bubble and one gondola). Anders Södergren
Hans Anders Södergren (born 17 May 1977 in Söderhamn, Hälsingland) is a Swedish cross-country skier who has competed since 1999. He earned a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and also finished 5th in the 15 km + 15 km double pursuit event at those same Olympics. In the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver he won a gold medal with the Swedish team in the 4 × 10 km relay. Södergren won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with two silvers (15 km + 15 km double pursuit: 2009, 50 km: 2003) and two bronzes in the 4 × 10 km relay (2003, 2007). He has eight FIS Race victories and is a ten-time national champion at distances between 15 km and 50 km as of the 2005–06 season. Axel Teichmann
Axel Teichmann (born 14 July 1979) is a German cross-country skiing coach and former skier. Background Teichmann started cross-country skiing at the age of ten. He completed his secondary education at Bad Lobenstein and, from 1993, at Oberhof. Since graduation in 1998, he has been aided in his sporting career by the German armed forces as a military athlete. In addition to professional sport, Teichmann studies electrical engineering at FernUniversität Hagen. Career Teichmann competed at the 2002, the 2010, and the 2014 Winter Olympics. He was sick for a large part of the 2005–06 season and failed to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Beitostølen
Beitostølen is a village in Øystre Slidre Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located at an elevation of about above mean sea level on the southern edge of the Valdresflye mountain plateau. John Kristian Dahl (born 27 March 1981) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed between 2001 and 2019. His best World Cup finish was second, three times between 2003 and 2008, all in the sprint event. On 2 March 2014, he won the annual long-distance cross-country ski race Vasaloppet (Swedish language, Swedish for 'the Vasa race') is an annual long distance cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country ski race held on the first Sunday of March. Björn Johan Lind (born March 22, 1978, in Ljusterö, Uppland) is a Swedish former cross-country skier who competed since 2000. Competing in three Winter Olympics, he won gold medals in both the Individual and Team sprint events at Turin in 2006. Tour De Ski
The Tour de Ski (TdS) is a cross-country skiing event held annually since the 2006–07 season in Central Europe. The Tour de Ski is a Stage World Cup event in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Each Tour de Ski has consisted of six to nine stages, held during late December and early January in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. As of 2023, the prize money for the event amount to 770,000 Swiss francs (779,000 euros), shared out on both men and women. Men's and women's events are held together on the same days, with the only difference being the distance skied. The stage hosts changes every year, but some of the format stays the same with the diversity of competitions; sprints, mass starts, races with individual starts and pursuits.
