Sir Angus James Bruce Ogilvy (14 September 1928 – 26 December 2004) was a British businessman. He is best known as the husband of Princess Alexandra of Kent, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Ogilvy is also remembered for his role in a business scandal, known as the Lonmin#History, Lonrho affair, involving the breaking of International sanctions, sanctions against Rhodesia during the 1970s. Operation Garron
Operation Garron is the codename that the United Kingdom assigned to its military relief operation in the aftermath of the devastating tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. Initial response The first forces assigned were Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. An RAF C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft was assigned to the region along with the RN warship HMS ''Chatham'', which left its station patrolling in the Persian Gulf. The Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel RFA ''Diligence'', present in Kochi, India when the disaster struck, replenished ''Chatham'' before returning to Kochi to embark aid supplies. Royal Navy engineers were also airlifted to the area to augment the ''Diligence''. After the port call it returned to the disaster area, to perform relief work with ''Chatham'' around the east coast of Sri Lanka. EMV is a payment method based on a technical standard for smart payment cards and for payment terminals and automated teller machines which can accept them. EMV stands for " Europay, Mastercard, and Visa", the three companies that created the standard. EMV cards are smart cards, also called chip cards, integrated circuit cards, or IC cards, which store their data on integrated circuit chips, in addition to magnetic stripes for backward compatibility. These include cards that must be physically inserted or "dipped" into a reader, as well as contactless cards that can be read over a short distance using near-field communication technology. The Child Trust Funds Act 2004 (c. 6) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Introductory Section 2 - Eligible children The words "and before 3rd January 2011" were inserted after "31st August 2002" in section 2(1) by section 1(2) of the Savings Accounts and Health in Pregnancy Grant Act 2010. Environmental Information Regulations 2004
The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), UK Statutory Instrument SI 2004 No. 3391, provide a statutory right of access to environmental information held by UK public authorities. The regulations came into force on 1 January 2005. The regulations were made by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under the authority provided by the European Communities Act 1972, entering into force on 1 January 2005, along with the outstanding parts of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. On 26 December 2004, at 07:58:53 local time ( UTC+7), a major earthquake with a magnitude of 9.2–9.3 struck with an epicentre off the west coast of Aceh in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The undersea megathrust earthquake, known in the scientific community as the Sumatra–Andaman earthquake, was caused by a rupture along the fault between the Burma plate and the Indian plate, and reached a Mercalli intensity of IX in some areas.
