Gilles Lamontagne
Joseph Georges Gilles Claude Lamontagne (; April 17, 1919 – June 14, 2016) was a Canadian politician who held a number of offices both in Quebec and federally. A Liberal, he was Mayor of Quebec City (1965–1977), Postmaster General of Canada (1978–1979), Minister of National Defence (1980–1983) and the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec (1984–1990). Early life He was born in Montreal. During World War II, Lamontagne served as a bomber pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force with 425 Squadron and was shot down over the Netherlands in 1943, being detained as a prisoner of war until May 1945. He ended his air force service with the rank of flight lieutenant. In 1946, he settled in Quebec City and entered the importing business. He became a member of the Rotary Club of Quebec City with his partner and neighbour Jean Poliquin. Career He entered politics and was elected mayor of Quebec City in 1965. Robert Lloyd George MacPhail, (March 22, 1920 – July 2, 1995) was a Canadian politician and the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. Born in New Haven, Prince Edward Island, the son of Robert Archibald MacPhail and Catherine C. MacLean, he was first elected in a 1961 by-election to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island as the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the district of 2nd Queens. He was re-elected in 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1979 and 1982. He held many cabinet positions including: Minister of Industry and Natural Resources and of Tourism Development (1965–1966), Minister of Finance (1979–1981), Chairman of the Treasury Board (1979–1981), and Minister of Development (1979–1980). Alan Abraham
Alan Rockwell Abraham (1 February 1931 – 2 October 2020) was the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Career Abraham, an engineering graduate from Saint Mary's University was involved in federal politics and helped with the organization of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's tours of the Maritimes. In 1983, Governor General Edward Schreyer, on the advice of Prime Minister Trudeau, appointed Abraham Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Abraham was the second youngest appointee as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia since Confederation at the time of his appointment. He was then age 53; one of his predecessors, Hon. James Robson Douglas of Amherst, was 49 when he was appointed in 1925. Abraham died in 2020 at the age of 89. Awards and recognition In 1996, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. James McGrath (Canadian Politician)
James Aloysius McGrath, (January 11, 1932 – February 28, 2017) was a politician and the eighth lieutenant governor of Newfoundland, Canada. Life As a young man, McGrath was a member of the Responsible Government League which opposed Newfoundland becoming a province of Canada. Nevertheless, upon the dominion's joining confederation in 1949, McGrath left to enlist with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He returned to Newfoundland in 1953 and became sales manager with radio station CJON. In 1955, he became secretary of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party association. In 1956, he ran unsuccessfully for the party in the provincial election. His daughter Robin McGrath is a poet and novelist.
