Broc (; frp, Broc, locally ) is a municipality in the district of Gruyère in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. History Broc is first mentioned in 1115 as ''Broc'' and ''Broch''. The municipality was formerly known by its German name ''Bruck'', but that name is no longer used. In 1898, the Cailler chocolate factory was opened. As a consequence, population of Broc increased by a three-fold. The factory hydroelectrical plant on the Jogne enabled the electrification of the entire village. Geography Broc has an area, , of . Jean Broc (1771–1850) was a French neoclassical painter. His most famous work, '' The Death of Hyacinthos'', was completed in 1801. Hyacinthus was a young male beauty and lover of the god Apollo. One day, while playing with a discus, Hyachinthus was struck with the object and consequently died. The painting depicts Apollo's mourning for his dead lover. Some myths link a jealous Zephyr to the incident, blaming his jealousy of Hyacinthus for a gust of wind resulting in the youth's death. Broc Glover (born May 16, 1960) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1976 to 1988. Glover earned six AMA national championships, a record which stood for nearly 20 years until 2003, when Ricky Carmichael finally eclipsed the mark. Motocross career Born in San Diego, California, Glover won the 125cc National Championship in his first full year riding as a pro in 1977. He defended his crown in 1978 and 1979. He moved to the 500cc class in 1981 and won the national championship in his first year in the class. Glover also won the 1981 Trans-USA series, formerly known as the Trans-AMA series. He added 500cc championships in 1983 and 1985. In 1987 he played a cameo role in Winners Take All as a rich playboy who hates motorcycles. Broc Little (born March 24, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for Linköping HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Playing career Little is a graduate of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, in his freshman year at Cushing he played with the teams leading point scorer - future NHL defenseman Keith Yandle. Prior to turning professional, Little attended Yale University, where he played four seasons with the Yale Bulldogs men's ice hockey team which competes in NCAA's Division I in the ECAC Hockey conference. In his 3rd year (2009–10) Little was named to the All-ECAC Hockey First-Team. Broc McCauley (born 20 December 1986) is a former Australian rules footballer, who played for Hawthorn Football Club and Brisbane Lions Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life A junior sporting standout in cricket, soccer and basketball who three years earlier had been an up-and-coming first-division soccer player. Broc Parkes (born 24 December 1981) is an Australian motorcycle racer, best known for his success in the Supersport World Championship. He currently races in the Endurance FIM World Championship aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1. Ranulf De Broc
Ranulf de Broc (sometimes Rannulf de Broc;Keats-Rohan ''Domesday Descendants'' p. 351 died around 1179) was an Anglo-Norman nobleman and royal official during the reign of King Henry II of England. He held two offices in the royal household as well as performing other administrative duties for the king. During the Becket controversy (lasting until Becket's death in 1170) between King Henry and Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, de Broc supported the king and was granted the administration of the exiled archbishop's lands during the later half of the 1160s. This earned de Broc three sentences of excommunication from the archbishop because of de Broc's financial exactions from the estates. De Broc was with the four men who murdered Becket in December 1170, although he did not take part in the actual murder.
