Blowing From A Gun
Blowing from a gun is a method of execution in which the victim is typically tied to the mouth of a cannon which is then fired, resulting in death. George Carter Stent described the process as follows: Blowing from a gun was a reported means of execution as long ago as the 16th century and was used until the 20th century. The method was used by Portuguese colonialists in the 16th and 17th centuries, from as early as 1509 across their empire from Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka)''Calcutta Review'' (1851)p. 395/ref> to Mozambique''Alden'' (1996)p. 55/ref> to Brazil. The Mughals used the method throughout the 17th century and into the 18th, particularly against rebels. This method of execution is most closely associated with the British colonial rule in India. Following the Indian Rebellion of 1857, "blowing from a gun" was a method the British used to execute rebels as well as for Indian sepoys who were found guilty of desertion. Using the methods previously practised by the M ...

Blown Away (Carrie Underwood Song)
"Blown Away" is a song by American recording artist Carrie Underwood, taken from her fourth studio album of the same name (2012). The song served as the album's second single on July 9, 2012, through Arista Nashville. Written by Chris Tompkins and Josh Kear, who previously wrote Underwood's single "Before He Cheats" (2006-2007), "Blown Away" is a country pop song with lyrics addressing the story of a daughter locking herself in a storm cellar while her alcoholic father is passed out on the couch in the path of a tornado. Producer Mark Bright drew inspiration from 1980s music. Upon its release, "Blown Away" was met with positive reviews from music critics, who considered it to be the musical highlight of the album. The song's content and production received particular praise, as critics felt it confirmed the album's darker mood which Underwood had mentioned prior to its release. Commercially, "Blown Away" was successful. In the United States, it became her 13th number one hit on ...

Blow Away
"Blow Away" is a song by English musician George Harrison that was released in February 1979 on his album '' George Harrison''. It was also the lead single from the album. The song is one of Harrison's most popular recordings from his solo career and has appeared on the compilations ''Best of Dark Horse 1976–1989'' and '' Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison''. Writing and recording The song is one of Harrison's simplest compositions. Its uptempo pop sound fell far outside the dominant genres of the era: disco and punk. The end of "Blow Away", written on a rainy day (that's why first verses are about clouds), was included in ''Nuns on the Run'' – a comedy with Eric Idle and Robbie Coltrane. In his autobiography, ''I, Me, Mine'', Harrison says that the song arose from feelings of frustration and inadequacy resulting from a leaking roof at his Friar Park home. While viewing the downpour from an outbuilding on the property, he realised that, in surrendering to the problem, h ...

Disarm
"Disarm" is a song by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. It was the third single from their second album, ''Siamese Dream'' (1993), and became a top-20 hit in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom despite being banned in the latter country due to the song's lyrical content. Lyrics The BBC banned "Disarm" from ''Top of the Pops'' because of the lyric "cut that little child", and it received little radio airplay in the United Kingdom. That lyric along with lyrics like "what I choose is my choice" and "the killer in me is the killer in you" has also led to some controversy, as some read it as a reference to abortion. The band's frontman Billy Corgan has stated that the song reflects the shaky relationship he had with his parents while growing up. Corgan revealed at a performance in 2019 that the song was written on the same day as "Today", which he called his "Suicidal Anthem". Release The song peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. In the U.S., th ...

King Swamp (album)
''King Swamp'' is the self-titled debut album of the British rock band King Swamp. Originally released in May 1989, the album was well received by critics. But, its failure to peak even in the top-150 on the Billboard 200 proved to be a bad omen. When their second album failed to chart anywhere in the U.S. or the U.K., the band split up. Despite the failure of the album to find a commercial audience, it did have the distinction of being featured on the 1980s TV show ''Miami Vice''.
