bc, for ''basic calculator'' (often referred to as ''bench calculator''), is "''an arbitrary-precision calculator language''" with syntax similar to the C programming language. bc is typically used as either a mathematical scripting language or as an interactive mathematical shell. Overview A typical interactive usage is typing the command bc on a Unix command prompt and entering a mathematical expression, such as , whereupon will be output. While bc can work with arbitrary precision, it actually defaults to zero digits after the decimal point, so the expression yields (results are truncated, not rounded). This can surprise new bc users unaware of this fact. The option to bc sets the default ''scale'' (digits after the decimal point) to 20 and adds several additional mathematical functions to the language. Robert H. Morris Sr. (July 25, 1932 – June 26, 2011) was an American cryptographer and computer scientist. __TOC__ Family and education Morris was born in Boston, Massachusetts. In Unix-like computer operating systems, a pipeline is a mechanism for inter-process communication using message passing. A pipeline is a set of processes chained together by their standard streams, so that the output text of each process ('' stdout'') is passed directly as input ('' stdin'') to the next one. Variable (programming)
In computer programming, a variable is an abstract storage location paired with an associated symbolic name, which contains some known or unknown quantity of information referred to as a ''value''; or in simpler terms, a variable is a named container for a particular set of bits or type of data (like integer, float, string etc...).
