Ballintra
Ballintra () is a village in the civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish of Drumholm, Drumhome in the south of County Donegal, Ireland, just off the N15 road (Ireland), N15 road between Donegal (town), Donegal town and Ballyshannon. Ballintra lies on the northern bank of the Blackwater river (sometimes referred to as the Ballintra River). The river rises in the hills that lie inland from the town, and flows through a number of small lakes before spilling over a small waterfall in a gorge behind the village. The Irish meaning of Ballintra, ''Baile an tSratha'', means town by the low-lying land along a river, the village is situated close to Rossnowlagh and Murvagh beaches. The village is situated in a limestone area, and there are a number of quarries in the area. Ballintra Railway Station
Ballintra railway station was a Donegal Railway Company station on the Donegal to Ballyshannon line. It was approximately from the village of Ballintra, County Donegal in Ireland. History Opened in September 1905, Ballintra was a station on the narrow-gauge railway line from Donegal Town to Ballyshannon. Located a short distance from the village, a local carriage service carried passengers to Ballintra. The station had two sidings, a goods shed and cattle pens. Originally operated by the Donegal Railway Company, the line and station transferred to the County Donegal Railways Joint Committee The County Donegal Railways Joint Committee operated an extensive narrow gauge railway system serving County Donegal, Ireland, from 1906 until 1960. Drumholm or Drumhome () is a civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish in the Barony (Ireland), historical barony of Tirhugh in County Donegal, Ireland. Drumholm (or Ballintra) is also a Catholic parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raphoe and a Church of Ireland parish in the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe. It contains all the land between the large towns of Ballyshannon and Donegal Town, including the small villages of Laghey, Ballintra and Rossnowlagh. Churches The Catholic parish historically had three churches: Brigit of Kildare, St Bridget's Church, Ballintra; The Chapel of Ease, Laghey and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Rossnowlagh. The main church, St Bridget's, was built in 1845 on the outskirts of Ballintra. This church lies in the same area as St Ernan's National School, the new and old parochial houses and St Bridget's Community Centre.
