Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1990. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals), Pete Turner (musician), Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Alex Reeves (drums). They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Reeves replaced original drummer Richard Jupp in 2016 as a touring and session musician at first, before becoming a full member in 2024. Manchester Arena
Manchester Arena (currently known as AO Arena for sponsorship reasons) is an indoor arena in Manchester, England, immediately north of the Manchester city centre, city centre and partly above Manchester Victoria station in air rights space. ''Build a Rocket Boys!'' is the fifth studio album by English rock band Elbow, released on 4 March 2011 in the UK. Coinciding with the UK release, the album was available digitally in the United States on 8 March and released in the physical format on 12 April. It is the follow-up to the highly successful ''The Seldom Seen Kid;'' like its predecessor, the album was self-produced by the band in Blueprint Studios, Manchester. The album was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize. It was supported by the Build a Rocket Boys! Tour. The first single, "Neat Little Rows", was released on 27 February 2011. The song received its first radio airplay on 13 January 2011. The video for the single was produced by The Soup Collective and filmed at Blueprint Studios where the album was recorded. "One Day Like This" is the second single from English band Elbow's fourth studio album, ''The Seldom Seen Kid'', released on 2 June 2008 on two 7-inch vinyl records and one CD single. On 21 May 2009, the song won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In October 2011, ''NME'' placed it at number 41 on its list of "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years". After featuring in the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony, the single peaked at No. 4 in the United Kingdom—a new high for the song and for the band. Background The song was a late addition to the album, after David Joseph of Universal Music requested a radio-friendly single. It took around two weeks to write and record. ''Flying Dream 1'' is the ninth studio album by British alternative rock band Elbow. It was released on 19 November 2021, through Polydor Records. Composition and recording ''Flying Dream 1'' was written remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, with each band member composing music at their homes in Manchester and London and exchanging their ideas online with the other members. The songs were then completed and recorded at the Theatre Royal in Brighton while it was still closed and empty, as a result of the pandemic.
