''Buddha's Lost Children'' is a 2006 documentary film by Dutch director Mark Verkerk. The feature film tells the story of Khru Bah Neua Chai Kositto, a Buddhist monk who has dedicated his life to orphaned children in the Golden Triangle area of Thailand. A documentary film or documentary is a non-fictional motion-picture intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education or maintaining a historical record". Crystal Film
The Crystal Film ( nl, Kristallen Film) is a film award recognising domestic box office achievements in the Netherlands. The Crystal Film is awarded to documentary films from the Netherlands once they have sold 10,000 tickets. The award is an initiative of the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund to increase media attention for Dutch documentary films, in addition to the existing Golden Film and Platinum Film for Dutch films in general. They announced the introduction of the Crystal Film on 28 April 2005. The first Crystal Film was awarded on 21 June 2005 to '' Shape of the Moon'' (2004). A Dutch documentary film is a documentary film made by a director of (partly) Dutch origin. Dutch documentary films are not necessarily bound to Dutch topics or locations in the Netherlands. History Before 1945 The first known Dutch documentary was made in 1916 by Johann Vierboom. The film ''Storm en noodweer in Nederland'' shows the 1916 flood disaster at the coasts of the Zuiderzee. DOK Leipzig is a documentary film festival that takes place every year in Leipzig, Germany. It is an international film festival for documentary and animated film founded in 1955 under the name "1st All-German Leipzig Festival of Cultural and Documentary Films" and was the first independent film festival in East Germany. In 1995 a separate competition for animated films was added and in 2004 a film industry program, DOK Industry, was initiated to allow a networking and contact platform for industry professionals. Shortly after German reunification attendance figures dropped, with just 5,500 people coming in 1993; however, they quickly picked up and in 2008 the festival had more than 27,000 attendees.
