Bristol Children's Hospital
Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, also known as the Bristol Children's Hospital, is a paediatric hospital in Bristol and the only paediatric major trauma centre in South West England. The hospital is part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), which includes eight other hospitals. The hospital is located next to the Bristol Royal Infirmary in the city centre. History The hospital has its origins in the Hospital for Sick Children on St Michael's Hill founded in 1866. The initial building was a large converted dwelling house on Royal Fort Road, south of the Royal Fort gatehouse, with accommodation for 40 patients. One of the hospital's first salaried doctors was the pioneering female surgeon, Eliza Walker, appointed as House Surgeon in 1873. The NICU is divided into several areas, including a critical care area for babies who require close monitoring and intervention, an intermediate care area for infants who are stable but still require specialized care, and a step down unit where babies who are ready to leave the hospital can receive additional care before being discharged. Bristol Archives (formerly Bristol Record Office) was established in 1924. It was the first borough record office in the United Kingdom, since at that time there was only one other local authority record office (Bedfordshire Record Office, Bedfordshire) in existence. It looks after the official archives of the City of Bristol, besides collecting and preserving many other records relating to the city and surrounding area for current and future generations to consult. The Archives moved from the City Hall, Bristol, City Hall to newly converted premises in the former B Bond Warehouse in 1992. The office is formally recognised by the Lord Chancellor for holding public records, and it acts as a diocesan record office for the Diocese of Bristol. Ray Smith (1949–2018) was an English sculptor, painter, illustrator and writer. He exhibited his work widely, and received a number awards, including an award by the Arts Council of Great Britain in 1973, and the Royal Society of Arts, Royal Society of Arts Architecture Award in 1993. Smith also wrote several books on art for the publisher DK (publisher), Dorling Kindersley and designed a selection of album covers. In an obituary in ''The Guardian'', Ghislaine Kenyon described Smith as "the complete artist", and despite having had no formal art training, "he expressed himself playfully in words, music and visual arts, using myriad techniques and media." Sir Peter Thomas Blake (born 25 June 1932) is an English pop artist. He co-created the sleeve design for the Beatles' 1967 album '' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band''. His other works include the covers for two of The Who's albums, the cover of the Band Aid single " Do They Know It's Christmas?", and the Live Aid concert poster. Blake also designed the 2012 Brit Award statuette. Blake is a prominent figure in the pop art movement.
