Brashear's Creek
Brashear's Creek is a USGSbr>classified streamflowing through Shelby and Spencer Counties in Kentucky. It begins at the confluence of Bullskin and Clear Creeks in Shelby County, approximately 2 miles east-northeast of Finchville, Kentucky. It flows approximately 26 miles from its source, through Rivals, to its terminus at Salt River in Taylorsville, Spencer County, Kentucky. The stream normally flows year-round, but during prolonged drought, it has been known to stop, with a number of dry spots in shallower areas. Due to its relatively large watershed and surrounding moderately steep terrain, it is also prone to flash flooding and can cut off a number of smaller roads at peak levels. Shelby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,065. Its county seat is Shelbyville. The county was established in 1792 and named for Isaac Shelby, the first Governor of Kentucky. Shelby County is part of the Louisville/Jefferson County, KY– IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Finchville, Kentucky
Finchville is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community within Shelby County, Kentucky, Shelby County, Kentucky, United States. Finchville's name Finchville was named for the early settler and blacksmith Ludwell R.Finch (known as "Lud") (born June 10, 1806, and died September 12, 1879) who first came to Shelby County in 1841. Between 1842 and 1848, he purchased about 200 acres of land from the heirs of William Wall on which he established his farm. Finch built his own blacksmith shop and store and the locality became known as “Finch’s Shop”. When the government established a post office in 1876, the name Finchville was adopted. Rivals, Kentucky
Rivals is a small unincorporated rural community on the banks of Brashear's Creek (near the confluence of Buck Creek and Brashears) in Spencer County, Kentucky, United States. At one time it had a general store started by Matthias Carland's family who settled the land beginning in 1796. Also a post office and a grist mill, started by Peter Van Dyke and his sons, which began operating in 1789. These businesses have been gone for many years, though the building that served as the store and post office still stands as a storage building for a home. It is located approximately 5 miles north-northeast of Taylorsville. Rivals received its name in an unusual fashion in August 1900. Taylorsville is a home rule-class city in Spencer County, Kentucky, United States. It is the county seat of Spencer County. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 1,256. It was incorporated in 1829. History Taylorsville was founded in 1799 on the land of Richard Taylor, father of US President Zachary Taylor.
