''Brahmacharya'' (; Sanskrit: Devanagari: ब्रह्मचर्य) is the concept within Indian religions that literally means "conduct consistent with Brahman" or "on the path of Brahman". Brahmacharya, a discipline of controlling the senses, is seen as a way to liberation. Though sexual restraint is a part of brahmacharya, brahmacharya encompasses all striving toward a passionless state. In one context, ''brahmacharya'' is the first of four '' ashrama'' (age-based stages) of a human life. The ''brahmacharya'' (bachelor student) stage of life – from childhood up to twenty-five years of age – was focused on education and included the practice of celibacy. In this context, it connotes chastity during the student stage of life for the purposes of learning from a ''guru'' (teacher), and during later stages of life for the purposes of attaining spiritual liberation or moksha. Upendranath Brahmachari
Rai Bahadur Sir Upendranath Brahmachari ; 19 December 1873 – 6 February 1946) was a prominent Indian physician and scientist. In 1922, he synthesised urea-stibamine (carbostibamide) and demonstrated its effectiveness in treating kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis). Early life Brahmachari was born on 19 December 1873 in Sardanga village near Purbasthali, District Burdwan, West Bengal, India. His father, Nilmony Brahmachari, was a physician in East Indian Railways and his mother was Saurabh Sundari Devi. He completed his early education from Eastern Railways Boys' High School in Jamalpur, Bihar. In 1893, he earned a BA degree from Hooghly Mohsin College with honours in Mathematics and Chemistry. ''Brahmachari'' () is a 1992 Indian Tamil-language comedy film directed by Muktha Srinivasan in his last directorial venture. The film stars Nizhalgal Ravi and Gautami. It was released on 15 January 1992. Plot Ganesan is a bachelor and wants to get married as soon as possible. Ganesan and his friend Panchavarnam look for the perfect bride. Later, Ganesan falls in love with Malathi at first sight. He follows her everywhere and even proposes his wish to marry her. At first, Malathi refuses but she then accepts his love. Malathi is from a rich family and her father Periya Thiruvadi only wants a rich groom, while Ganesan is a poor guy. There comes Ganesan's uncle from Dubai and the lovers think that he is rich. Knowing the news, Thiruvadi is urged to prepare their wedding. His uncle turns out to be a simple hairdresser in Dubai. ''Brahmachari'' () is a 1968 Indian Telugu-language comedy drama film, produced by A. V. Subba Rao under the Prasad Art Productions banner and directed by T. Rama Rao. The film stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Jayalalithaa, with music composed by T. Chalapathi Rao. It was released on 1 February 1968. Vishnu Bhikaji Gokhale (1825–1871), popularly known as Vishnubawa Brahmachari and as Brahmachari Bawa, was a 19th-century Marathi Hindu revivalist. An ascetic defender of the Hindu dharma, he was known for his religious polemics, chiefly against Christianity.
