Borg–Connors Rivalry
The Borg–Connors rivalry was a List of tennis rivalries, tennis rivalry between Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors. They met 23 times during their careers, and 42 times including invitational and exhibition tournaments. Borg leads 15–8 in their official head-to-head, 8–5 in finals, 5–3 in Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam meetings and they are 2–2 in Grand Slam finals. Connors leads 7–3 and 8–1 in invitational and exhibition matches, respectively. In 1975 Connors met Borg in the semifinals of the U.S. Open (tennis), U.S. Open and defeated him in straight sets, on clay. Connors defeated Borg again at the U.S. Open again in 1976, this time in a four-set final, capturing his second U.S. Open title. Jimmy Connors
James Scott Connors (born September 2, 1952) is an American former professional tennis player. He was ranked as the List of ATP number 1 ranked singles players, world No. 1 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for 268 weeks (List of ATP number 1 ranked singles players#Weeks at No. 1, fifth-most of all time), and finished as the List of ATP number 1 ranked singles players#Year-end No. 1 players, year-end No. 1 five times. Pepsi Grand Slam
The Pepsi Grand Slam of Tennis was a men's tennis tournament played as part of the Grand Prix circuit from 1976 to 1981. The tournament was played in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in 1976 and Boca Raton, Florida, from 1977 to 1981. It was held on outdoor clay courts and featured a field of four players: winners of the semi-finals played in the final, while losers played a consolation match. The tournament's official name was the "Pepsi-Cola Grand Slam of Tennis". It was sponsored by Pepsi-Cola, who also sponsored a "mobile tennis program" (youth instruction) and a worldwide junior tournament circuit. The WCT Invitational was a professional men's tennis tournament held from 1978 through 1981 in the United States. The tournament was held in Forest Hills, New York on clay courts from 1978–79 and in Salisbury, Maryland on indoor carpet courts from 1980–81. Tokyo Indoor
The Tokyo Indoor was a men's tennis tournament played in Tokyo, Japan on indoor carpet courts from 1966 to 1995. History The event was established in 1966 but had periods when it was not staged. It was played as part of the Grand Prix Tennis Tour from 1978 to 1989 and part of the Grand Prix Super Series, the precursors to the Masters 1000, from 1978 to 1988. It became part of the ATP Championship Series between 1990 and 1995. The tournament was held at the Tokyo Municipal Gym in 1978 and 1979, then the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, before returning to the former for the 1990s. It was played on indoor carpet courts.
