Solon Borglum
Solon Hannibal de la Mothe Borglum (December 22, 1868 – January 31, 1922) was an American sculptor. He is most noted for his depiction of frontier life, and especially his experience with cowboys and native Americans. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre by France for his work with ''Les Foyers du Soldat'' service clubs during World War I. Early life Born in Ogden, Utah, Borglum was the younger brother of Gutzon Borglum and uncle of Lincoln Borglum, the two men most responsible for the creation of the carvings at Mount Rushmore. Solon's Danish immigrant father James Borglum was a Mormon polygamist, being married to two sisters, Ida and Christina Mikkelsen. Børglum is a Danish village with a population below 200 (1 January 2011) in Hjørring municipality, Region Nordjylland (until December 31, 2006; Løkken-Vrå municipality, North Jutland County). Børglum Abbey
Børglum Abbey was an important Premonstratensian abbey of medieval Denmark, located in Børglum parish, in the commune of Hjørring, approximately five kilometers east of Løkken in north central Jutland (Region Nordjylland) from the 12th century until reformation. History Origin Børglum Abbey was originally a royal farm () which dated back as far as 1000, if not earlier. In 1086 King Canute IV fled from his residence at Børglum when the peasants revolted against him. The royal residence was burned to the ground but rebuilt sometime later. At some point between 1134 and 1139, the royal estate at Børglum was granted to the church to become the new seat of the bishopric of northern Jutland, also known as the bishopric of Vendsyssel, previously established at Vestervig. Lincoln Borglum
James Lincoln de la Mothe Borglum (April 9, 1912 – January 27, 1986) was an American sculptor, photographer, author and engineer; he was best known for overseeing the completion of the Mount Rushmore after the death of the project's leader, his father, Gutzon Borglum, in 1941. One of his best-known works, a bust of his father, is on display outside the Lincoln Borglum Visitors Center at Mount Rushmore. Life and career Named after his father's favorite president, Abraham Lincoln, and called by his middle name, Lincoln Borglum was the first child of Gutzon Borglum and his second wife, Mary Montgomery Williams (1874–1955). Scyller J. Borglum is an American politician and engineer from the state of South Dakota. A Republican, Borglum served in the South Dakota House of Representatives for the 32nd district from 2018 to 2021. Borglum unsuccessfully ran to represent South Dakota in U.S. Senate in 2020, losing the Republican primary to incumbent Mike Rounds. Early life, education, and career Borglum is from Great Falls, Montana. She graduated from Charles M. Russell High School in 1995, where she was class president and governor of the Montana Youth Legislature. Borglum attended Pacific Lutheran University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.
