Bishop
A bishop is an ordained member of the clergy who is entrusted with a position of Episcopal polity, authority and oversight in a religious institution. In Christianity, bishops are normally responsible for the governance and administration of dioceses. The role or office of the bishop is called episcopacy or the episcopate. Organisationally, several Christian denominations utilise ecclesiastical structures that call for the position of bishops, while other denominations have dispensed with this office, seeing it as a symbol of power. Bishops have also exercised political authority within their dioceses. Bishop, Texas
Bishop is a city in Nueces County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,174 as of the 2020 census, up from 3,134 in the 2010 census. History Bishop is a small town in south Texas, it was a planned town from its beginning. In 1910, F.Z. Bishop, an insurance agent turned promoter, acquired of land in South Texas along the railroad line and laid out a model community surrounded by farm tracts. Bishop laid out zoned business, industrial and residential districts and built a water and power system. In just two years, the town grew to a population of 1,200. Bishop closed his operation as World War I started. He had sold more than of land and established a prosperous community. The city was built on agriculture as its economic mainstay. Bishop, designated HS17B48XG5-D5, is a fictional character portrayed by Lance Henriksen in the science fiction film '' Aliens'' (1986). He is an android and the science officer of the ''Sulaco''. Euplectes
''Euplectes'' is a genus of passerine bird in the Ploceidae, weaver family, Ploceidae, that contains the bishops and widowbirds. They are all native to Africa south of the Sahara. It is believed that all birds in the genus are probably polygyny in animals, polygynous. The genus ''Euplectes'' was introduced by the English naturalist William Swainson in 1829 with the southern red bishop as the type species. The name combines the Ancient Greek ''eu'' meaning "fine" or "good" with the Neo-Latin ''plectes'' meaning "weaver". Robert K. Bishop (1945–1991) was a bondage artist, author, photographer and bondage rigger best known for his images of restrained and gagged women published by the House of Milan, for which he also worked as production manager. Robert Bishop was born in the U.S. state of Michigan in 1945. John Patrick Tomkins is an American who was convicted of sending several threatening letters and bomb-like devices to financial firms in the Midwestern United States under the pseudonym The Bishop. A machinist and lifelong resident of Dubuque, Iowa, he is now serving a 37-year sentence in federal prison. Crime Beginning in 2005, threatening letters were sent to various financial institutions, demanding that certain stock prices be raised to $6.66 (the Biblical "Number of the Beast"). The letters were signed by "The Bishop". The return addresses on the letters were from various cities in the Midwest. The sender set deadlines for the stock prices to be changed, and threatened to take action if the deadlines were not met. The Bishop's Block, also known as the Bishop's Block Apartments, is a historic building located in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. It was included as a contributing property in the Old Main Street Historic District in 2015. History The building significance is derived from its association with its architect, Franklin D. Hyde. with He was a Dubuque architect known for his residential designs. Considered his best work, Hyde designed the building in the Romanesque Revival style. It was completed in 1887 and the exterior is composed of brick. The building measures tall and rises five floors. Bishop Peak (California)
Bishop Peak is a volcanic plug in San Luis Obispo, California. It is the tallest of the Morros or " Nine Sisters", a chain of similar peaks stretching to Morro Bay. Often said to take its name from its resemblance to a bishop's miter, it is named in homage to the town's name (San Luis Obispo). "Obispo" is the Spanish word for Bishop. Geology Like the other Morros, Bishop Peak is primarily composed of dacite. About 20 to 25 million years ago, magma welled up underneath a layer of softer rock and solidified.
