Birmingham Quran Manuscript
The Birmingham Quran manuscript comprises two leaves of parchment from an early Quranic manuscript or muṣḥaf. In 2015, the manuscript, which is held by the University of Birmingham in England, was radiocarbon dated to between 568 and 645 CE (in the Islamic calendar, between 56 before Hijrah and 24 after Hijrah). It is presently believed that the manuscript is an early descendant of the Uthmanic codex. It is part of the Mingana Collection of Middle Eastern manuscripts, held by the university's Cadbury Research Library. The manuscript is written in ink on parchment, using an Arabic Hijazi script and is still clearly legible. The leaves preserve parts of Surahs 19 (Maryam) to 20 (Taha). It was on display at the University of Birmingham in 2015 and then at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery until 5 August 2016. Ṭā Hā (; ) is the 20th chapter (''sūrah'') of the Qur'an with 135 verses ('' āyāt''). It is named "Ṭā Hā" because the chapter starts with the Arabic ''ḥurūf muqaṭṭaʿāt'' (disjoined letters): (Ṭāhā) which is widely mistaken to be one of the names of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, but is just one of the many unlinked letters at the beginning of many other surahs of the Quran. Codex Parisino-petropolitanus
The Codex Parisino-Petropolitanus (CPP) is an early Quran manuscript. The largest part of the manuscript is held at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris, as BnF Arabe 328(ab), with 70 folios. Another 46 folios are kept in the National Library of Russia in Saint-Petersburg. Two additional folia have been preserved, one kept in the Vatican Library ( Vat. Ar. 1605/1) and the other in the Khalili Collections in London (KFQ 60). The manuscript BnF Arabe 328 consists of six parts, labelled a–f. Of these, parts (a) and (b) were later recognized as having formed part of a single original manuscript. *BnF Arabe 328(a), 56 leaves (foll. 1–56), with additional leaves held by the Vatican Library, the Khalili Collection of Islamic Art and the National Library of Russia. Corpus Coranicum
Corpus Coranicum (2007 - 2024) was a digital research project of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The project made sources accessible that are relevant for the history of the Quran. These primary texts include Jewish, Christian, and other textual remains from the world of Quran. To trace its oral and written transmission further, early manuscripts of the Quran were catalogued and made available through the project’s database. A literary commentary on the Quranic text completes the project. Begun in 2007, the initial three-year database project was headed by two project leaders: Senior Professor of Arabic Studies Angelika Neuwirth (Freie Universität Berlin) was responsible for the commentary. Edward Cadbury
Edward Cadbury (1873 – 21 November 1948) was a British chairman of Cadbury Brothers, business theorist, and philanthropist, known for his pioneering works on management and organisations. Biography Edward Cadbury was the eldest son of George Cadbury and his first wife, Mary (née Tylor). He grew up in the house which is now occupied by the Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre near Birmingham, England, and around 1890 studied in London and Germany. After being educated at Leighton Park School, Cadbury joined the family business of Cadbury Brothers in 1893, becoming a managing director in 1899 and chairman in 1937, retiring in 1943. He was chairman of the Daily News Ltd from 1911 to 1930. Alphonse Mingana (), born Hurmiz Mingana (; 1878 – 5 December 1937), was an Assyrian theologian, historian, Syriacist, orientalist and a former priest who is best known for collecting and preserving the Mingana Collection, a collection of ancient Middle Eastern manuscripts at Birmingham. Life Background and arrival in England Mingana was born at Sharanesh, a village near Zakho (present-day Kurdistan, Iraq), to Paolus and Maryam Nano. He had seven siblings. Like the majority of Assyrians in the Zakho region, his family belonged to the Chaldean Catholic Church. In 1913, Mingana came to England at the invitation of J. Rendel Harris, Director of Studies at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, a Quaker Settlement at Selly Oak in Birmingham.
