Biathlon At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Men's Pursuit
The men's 12.5 km pursuit competition of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics was held on 12 February 2018 at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The field was the same as for the sprint event, held on the previous day, with competitors starting time dependent on their final time in the sprint event. Summary The sprint champion, Arnd Peiffer, started on the first place. The starting intervals were very short, with number 10 starting merely half a minute behind Peiffer. In the victory ceremony the day after, the medals were presented by Denis Oswald, member of the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, accompanied by Thomas Pfueller, IBU Vice President of Marketing. Alpensia Biathlon Centre
Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre () and Alpensia Biathlon Centre () are sport venues in the Alpensia resort, located in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do (South Korea), Gangwon-do, South Korea. They are used for cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing and biathlon respectively. Each grandstand of the two venues is contiguous and similar in appearance. They also adjoin the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre, ski jumping hills. In the non-winter season, the venues are also used as golf courses named Alpensia 700. History The venues were first completed in December 1995. They were called several names, which roughly mean the Gangwon (Kangwon) provincial Nordic venue. Emil Hegle Svendsen (born 12 July 1985) is a retired Norwegian biathlete. He has won eight medals at Winter Olympics (four gold) and five individual gold medals and seven relay gold medals at World Championships. He skis with Trondhjems Skiskyttere, based in his hometown Trondheim. Career The 2005–06 season was Svendsen's first season on the World Cup tour. Previously, he had competed as a junior in the European Cup, now known as the IBU cup. During his first season in the World Cup, Svendsen finished fifth in three races, two of them in sprints ( Brezno- Osrblie and Ruhpolding), and the other in a mass start ( Holmenkollen). Timothy John Burke (born February 3, 1982, in Paul Smiths, New York) is a retired U.S. biathlete and coach. On December 20, 2009, he became the first ever US biathlete to lead the overall Biathlon World Cup. Simon Eder (born 23 February 1983) is an Austrian biathlete. Career His first World Cup win was in the Khanty-Mansiysk mass-start race on 29 March 2009. Eder represented Austria at the 2010 Winter Olympics and in 2014 Winter Olympics. He won 2 medals: silver in the Men's relay in 2010, and a bronze in Men's relay in 2014. Andrejs Rastorgujevs (born 27 May 1988) is a Latvian biathlete. He has participated in three Winter Olympics, and has two individual and one relay Biathlon World Cup podium. Career Andrejs Rastorgujevs is a biathlete from Latvia. Erik Lesser (born 17 May 1988) is a German former biathlete. In 2010, he ran his first single World Cup Race. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a silver medal at Men's individual.
