Biathlon At The 2002 Winter Olympics – Women's Individual
The women's 15-kilometre individual biathlon competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics was held on 11 February, at Soldier Hollow. Competitors raced over five loops of a 3.0-kilometre skiing course, shooting four times, twice prone and twice standing. Each miss resulted in one minute being added to a competitor's skiing time. Results The Biathlon World Cup test event in 2001 was won by Magdalena Forsberg, who shot clear and won by more than a minute from Martina Zellner, a German who was not selected for her national team for the 2002 Games. Forsberg was also the defending world champion and World Cup champion in the distance , and led the World Cup in the discipline, having won two of the three Individual races earlier in the season. However despite a long history of success, she had never won an Olympic medal. Soldier Hollow
Soldier Hollow is a cross-country ski venue located at the mouth of a hollow of the same name about southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch Mountain State Park in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The venue was created for the 2002 Winter Olympics and hosted the biathlon, cross-country skiing, and the cross country skiing portion of the Nordic combined events, a role it is expected to reprise for the 2034 Winter Olympics. Since hosting the Olympics, it has been developed as a cross-country skiing, tubing, and snowshoeing venue, while featuring mountain biking and golfing in the summer. Martina Glagow
Martina "Molly" Beck (born Martina Glagow; 21 September 1979 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany) is a retired German biathlete. She now lives in Mittenwald in Bavaria. She was most successful in the 2002–03 season, when she was the first German to win the women's overall Biathlon World Cup. She is also a three-times world champion and three-times Olympic silver medalist. She married the Austrian biathlete Günther Beck on 24 July 2008 and is now known as Martina Beck. She has one daughter named Hilde (born 1 April 2011). Ann Elen Skjelbreid
Ann-Elen Skjelbreid (born 13 September 1971) is a Norwegian former biathlete from the Hålandsdal area in the Norwegian municipality of Fusa. She is the sister of Liv Grete Skjelbreid and is married with fellow Norwegian biathlete Egil Gjelland. Junior career She began with biathlon when she was 11 years old, and won the national ski competition for her age calls at 14 years of age. After the secondary school she moved to Trysil Municipality to go on the advanced ski school there. She was named to the Norwegian national team for the 1990 World Junior Championships, and was a part of the team which won the silver medal. Pavlina Filipova
Pavlina Ivanovna Filipova (); born December 20, 1975, in Berkovitsa) is a Bulgarian biathlete. Her professional sporting career began in 1996. She has competed in three Winter Olympic Games. In 1998 and 2002, Filipova posted fourth-place finishes in the 15 km individual and 4 x 7.5 km relay, respectively. Filipova also won an individual gold medal for Bulgaria in the 15 km race at the 2006 Biathlon European Championships in Langdorf-Abersee, Germany. Florence Baverel (born 24 May 1974 in Pontarlier, Doubs), is a retired French biathlete who competed in the biathlon at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
