Benapole–Petrapole Border Ceremony
The Petrapole-Benapole joint retreat ceremony was inaugurated on 6 November 2013 by the Indian Home Minister at Integrated Check Post (ICP) Petrapole-Benapole in the presence of the Home Minister of Bangladesh. It is a daily military exercise, similar to the Wagah Border ceremony, and engages soldiers of Border Security Force (India) and the Border Guards Bangladesh. Events The Petrapole-Benapole border ceremony takes place every evening from 16:30 to 17:00. This joint retreat ceremony of 30 minutes resulting in lowering of national flags of India and Bangladesh is jointly conducted by BSF (Border Security Force) and BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh). The "Wagah of the East" as it is known, the Petrapole-Benapole border ceremony starts off with opening of gates on India and Bangladesh side. Bangaon is a town and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Bangaon subdivision. Geography Location Bangaon is located at . Attari–Wagah Border Ceremony
The ceremony at the Attari–Wagah border is a daily ceremony that the security forces of India (Border Security Force) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) have jointly followed since 1959. The drill is characterized by elaborate and rapid dance-like manoeuvres and raising legs as high as possible. It is symbolic of the brotherhood as well as the rivalry that these two nations share. The border troops exchange sweets with the opposing side during the Muslim holidays of Muslim holidays, Eid and Hindu holiday of Diwali. The flag lowering ceremony at the village of Wagah is held each evening immediately before sunset. The ceremony begins with battle calls from both sides in the form of loud screaming by the border guards. Benapole Border Crossing
The Benapole Border Crossing also known as the Petrapole Crossing (, ) is an international border crossing between Benapole, Jessore District, Jessore, Bangladesh, and Petrapole, North 24 Parganas district, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. History At the time of Partition of Bengal (1947) the Radcliffe Line placed the police station areas of Bangaon and Gaighata of Jessore district in India and the area was made a part of 24 Parganas district. Benapole
Benapole () is a town at Sharsha Upazila in the Jessore District of Bangladesh. The Petrapole Customs station of India is situated across the border and since 1947, many people have travelled between what is now Bangladesh and India through Benapole Customs / Land port station. This is one of important rail transit point of railway link between Bangladesh and India. Urbanization of Benapole started in the 1990s along the Grand Trunk Road. In April 1971, the operational area of the sector 8 comprised the districts of Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Faridpur and Patuakhali. At the end of May the sector was reconstituted and comprised the districts of Kuhstia, Jessore, Khulna, Satkhira and the northern part of Faridpur district.
