Battle Of Šušaja
The Battle of Šušaja was a battle between police of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Albanian militant group Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac (UÇPMB) during the 2000-2001 insurgency in the Preševo Valley. Battle On January 6, 2001, a faction of LAPMB insurgents took control of Gornja Šušaja. They were well received by the local Albanian population, and some residents even joined their ranks. On January 19, another group of LAPMB insurgents from Gornja Šušaja, led by Bardhyl Osmani, conducted a raid on Yugoslav army positions near Crnotince. The insurgency in the Preševo Valley was an approximately two year-long armed conflict between 1999 and 2001, between the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the ethnic Albanian separatists of the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac (UÇPMB). There were instances during the conflict in which the Yugoslav government requested Kosovo Force, KFOR support in suppressing UÇPMB attacks since they could only use lightly armed military forces as part of the Kumanovo Treaty that ended the Kosovo War, which created a buffer zone between Serbia and Montenegro, FR Yugoslavia and United Nations Administered Kosovo, Kosovo. The Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (, abbr. САЈ / SAJ) is an elite tactical unit of the Serbian Police. History The history of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit dates back to 18 December 1978 and the establishment of the Militia Unit for Special Actions (). The first base for the Milicija unit was at the militia station in New Belgrade. Its first commander was Miloš Bujenović. In 1983, the unit moved to Belgrade Airport in Surčin. Albanians in Serbia (; ) are a recognized national minority in Serbia. According to the 2022 census, the population of ethnic Albanians in Serbia is 61,687, constituting 0.93% of the total population.
