Battle Of Shuja'iyya (2023)
The Battle of Shuja'iyya was a military engagement between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian forces in December 2023 during the Gaza war. During the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, Shuja'iyya was the last district in Gaza City that had not been subject to an Israeli ground invasion, and as a result many Palestinians who had not been able to evacuate south had sought refuge in the district. Despite this, the Israel Defense Forces had shelled and bombarded targets in Shuja'iyya for weeks before invading on December 4. On the 26th of December, Israel withdrew from Shuja'iyya, announcing that the local Hamas battalion had been defeated. Despite this, militants continued to attack Israeli forces within the town. Wissam Farhat
Wissam Abu Hussein Farhat (; 1974 – December 2, 2023) was a Head of Hamas's Shejaiya Battalion. He was the mastermind behind various attacks such as the Atzmona Attack, the Nahal Oz attack and more. Biography Wissam Farhat was born in 1974 to Umm Nidal. Three of his brothers -- Nidal, Muhammad, and Rawad were killed for their Hamas activities. Farhat was arrested on March 20, 1995 on charges of transporting 6 bags of explosives into Israel, which Israel alleged was an attempt to carry out a suicide bombing in Israel. He spent almost 11 years in Israeli prison, including 2 years in Ashkelon, 6 years in Nafha, and 2 and a half years in Hadarim. He was released from Israeli prison in November 2005, three weeks after his brother Rawad was killed by Israel. While in prison, Farhat learned of his younger brother Muhammad's participation in the Atzmona attack, in which Muhammad killed 5 Israeli civilians and wounded 12 others. Shuja'iyya Ambush
On 13 December 2023, during the wider Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip (2023–present), Israeli invasion of Gaza, Hamas forces carried out an ambush at Shuja'iyya. IDF Achzarit
The Achzarit ( in Hebrew: "cruel", feminine inflection) is a heavily armoured personnel carrier manufactured by the Israeli Defence Forces Corps of Ordnance.
