The men's tournament of basketball at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico began on October 26 and ended on October 30, when Puerto Rico defeated Mexico 74-72 for the gold medal. All games were held at the CODE Dome. Basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games took place at the indoor arena in the Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, Autódromo de Jacarépagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an arena which was built specially for the Pan Am Games. Brazil national basketball team, Brazil was the reigning Pan American champion in the men's competition, while Cuba national basketball team, Cuba defended its title in the women's competition. Each competition had eight teams divided in two groups. In each group, each team played against all others once and the two best advanced to the semifinals. The two latter in each group played in 5th to 8th classification matches. The women's competition started on July 20 with the final held on July 24. The men's competition began on July 25, with the finals on July 29. José Juan Barea
José Juan Barea Mora (born June 26, 1984) is a Puerto Rican basketball coach and former player. He played college basketball for the Northeastern Huskies men's basketball, Northeastern Huskies before joining the Dallas Mavericks in 2006 and becoming only the seventh Puerto Rican to play in the NBA. He went on to win an NBA championship with the Mavericks in 2011 before signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played for the next three seasons before returning to Dallas. He has also played in the NBA Development League and the Baloncesto Superior Nacional. Edwin Ubiles (born November 26, 1986) is a Puerto Rican former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Siena College. A native of Poughkeepsie, New York, he averaged 14.8 points per game over his four seasons at Siena, where he finished third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,939 points. Professional career In November 2011, Ubiles joined the Dakota Wizards of the NBA Development League. He played in the 2012 D-League All-Star Game, and on March 18, 2012, he signed a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards. Paul Michael Stoll (born December 14, 1985) is an American-born Mexican professional basketball player for Halcones de Xalapa of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP).
