Six national teams qualified to compete in Baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics, baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . As host, Japan national baseball team, Japan automatically qualified. Israel national baseball team, Israel also qualified, by winning the Baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification#Africa/Europe Qualifying Event, Africa/Europe Qualifying Event in September 2019. Baseball At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Baseball was featured at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, for the first time since the 2008 Summer Olympics. Six national teams competed in the tournament: Israel, Japan (host), Mexico, South Korea, the United States, and the Dominican Republic. Baseball/softball was one of five optional sports that were added to the programme of the 2020 Summer Olympics. It did not return in 2024 for the Paris Summer Olympics. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but on 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019 Pan American Games (), officially the XVIII Pan American Games () and commonly known as Lima 2019, were a multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization held in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019, with preliminary rounds in certain events having begun on July 24, 2019. These were the first Pan American Games to be held in Peru, and the seventh to be held in South America. The WBSC World Rankings is a ranking system for national teams in baseball, softball, and baseball5. The teams of the member nations of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), the world governing body for both sports, are ranked based on their tournament results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A point system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of WBSC-recognized international tournaments. Under the existing system, rankings are based on a team's performance over the last four years, with major international tournaments awarded a higher weighting compared to minor international and continental tournaments. Joseph Samuel Wagman (; born July 25, 1991) is an American-Israeli right-handed former professional baseball pitcher. He also plays for the Israel National Baseball Team. Wagman attended college at Cal Poly, where he was twice voted to the NCAA Big West Conference All-Conference Team, and was named a Louisville Slugger All American. He established the school record for victories in a season, with 13. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 17th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. Pitching for the Rockford Aviators of the independent Frontier League in 2014, Wagman led the league in strikeouts and was named to the Frontier League All-Star Team. Orlando Yntema Peña (born February 21, 1986) is a Dutch professional baseball pitcher. He played for Team Netherlands in the 2019 European Baseball Championship and at the Africa/Europe 2020 Olympic Qualification tournament in Italy in September 2019. The 2019 African Baseball Championship was the fourth Africa Baseball Championship, after 1999, 2003, and 2007. The Championship was held from 1 May – 5 May 2019, at the Boksburg Baseball Club in Johannesburg, South Africa.
