Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety that, as of 2000, was the third most-planted red grape variety in Italy (after Sangiovese and Montepulciano). Luciano Barbera is a high-end men’s clothing company based in Biella, Italy, a town and commune in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. History Prior to producing a clothing company, the Barbera family owned and operated the Carlo Barbera wool mill, also located in Biella, Italy. In 1962, Luciano Barbera (son of Carlo Barbera) was photographed by Ugo Mulas for ''Vogue'' in a suit made with his family's fabrics. Years later, the owner of the US menswear store Louis Boston offered Luciano to sell his line of clothes, which led the latter to create his clothing brand. In 1971, the Luciano Barbera brand of men's clothes was created, using the Carlo Barbera fabrics to make the clothes. In 2010 the reported average price of fabric from the Carlo Barbera factory was 41 euros a meter ($48.75 a yard). Barbera D'Asti
Barbera d'Asti is an Italian red wine made from the Barbera grape. It is produced in the hilly areas of the provinces of Asti (67 municipalities) and Alexandria (51 municipalities). Barbera d'Asti was accredited with DOC status in 1970, and DOCG status followed in 2008. Under the DOCG rules, a minimum of 90% Barbera grapes must be used; the balance may be made up with either Freisa, Grignolino or Dolcetto grapes. The wine must be made before the date of 1 March immediately following the harvest, and must reach a minimum alcohol content of 11.5% ABV. ''Barbera d'Asti Superiore'' must have an alcoholic strength of at least 12.5% by volume, and be aged for at least 14 months, 6 months of which stored in oak or chestnut barrels. Vincenzo La Barbera (c. 1577 – 1642) was an Italian Mannerist architect and painter. Biography The son of Pietro and Domenica de Michele, his family were of Ligurian descent. The artist was born in Termini Imerese, to which his grandfather Bartolomeo Barbieri had moved in the first half of the 16th century before marrying a woman from that city named Lucrezia. That city was then Sicily's richest 'Caricatore' (grain-storing city). La Barbera studied under Antonino Spatafora, a painter and architect from Palermo who had a studio in Termini Imerese between the end of the 16th century and the first decade of the 17th century. Salvatore La Barbera (; 20 April 1922 – 17 January 1963) was a Sicilian mafioso. Together with his brother Angelo La Barbera he ruled the Mafia family of Palermo Centro. Salvatore La Barbera sat on the first Sicilian Mafia Commission that was set up in 1958 as the capo mandamento for Mafia families of Borgo Vecchio, Porta Nuova and Palermo Centro. La Barbera disappeared during the First Mafia War, a victim of the '' lupara bianca'', never to be seen again. Peter LaBarbera (born 1963) is an American social conservative activist and the president of the anti-gay organization Americans for Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH). LaBarbera has been criticized for spreading hate speech and misinformation about homosexuality, with AFTAH being designated as an anti-LGBT hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for spreading "hateful propaganda". Pat (Pascel Emmanuel) LaBarbera (born April 7, 1944) is an American-born Canadian jazz tenor, alto and soprano saxophonist, clarinetist, and flautist born in Mt. Morris, New York, most notable for his work as a soloist in Buddy Rich bands from 1967 to 1973. He moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1974, and is a member of the faculty at Humber College. La Barbera began working with Elvin Jones in 1975, touring Europe with him in 1979. While working with Buddy Rich, Pat also was working in groups led by Woody Herman and Louie Bellson. Pat has also played with Carlos Santana. LaBarbera has played a major role in the development of a generation of Canadian saxophonists.
