Bantam BRC is an American off-road vehicle designed during World War II, constructed in 1940, and the precursor to the Jeep. Produced in a relatively small number of 2,642 units, in several versions, it was used by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. The basic version of the model was the BRC-40 (Bantam Reconnaissance Car 40). History of the project In preparation for the United States' entry into World War II, the United States Department of War, Department of War announced an invitation to tender in July 1940 for a light military vehicle intended for reconnaissance, liaison, and other purposes. American Bantam
The American Bantam Car Company was an American automobile manufacturing company incorporated in the state of Pennsylvania. American Bantam is credited with inventing the original World War II ton jeep in 1940.To be distinguished from the U.S. Army's first ever series-produced, light 4wheel drive trucks, which were ''half-ton'' rated – developed by Dodge, and supplied to the Army earlier that same year as the Dodge VC series – and which were ''also'' called "jeeps" by soldiers. Fort Holabird was a United States Army post in the city of Baltimore, Maryland, active from 1918 to 1973. History Fort Holabird was located in the southeast corner of Baltimore and northwest of the suburban developments of Dundalk, Maryland, in surrounding Baltimore County, fronting on Holabird Avenue between Broening Highway and Dundalk Avenue.
