Bandundu, formerly known as Banningville or Banningstad, is the capital city of Kwilu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Location Bandundu is located on the east bank of the Kwango River, just north of the confluence of the Kwango and the Kwilu, and south from the mouth of the Kwango on the Kasai River. It is around from Kinshasa by air, or about by road. In 2009, Bandundu had an estimated population of 133,080. Economy Bandundu was once a significant river port, as it is the largest town on the river between Kinshasa and Kikwit. However, traffic on the Kasai and Kwango Rivers dropped dramatically as a result of the Second Congo War, and has yet to recover. Bandundu does have intermittent passenger and freight service to Kinshasa, Mushie and Kikwit. Since 2008, there is a car/truck ferry service running several times per day across the Kwango. Cities Of The Democratic Republic Of The Congo
The cities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are administrative divisions of Provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, provinces with the exception of Kinshasa which itself has the status of a province. Cities are further divided into Communes of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, communes. They are led by mayors except for Kinshasa which is led by a governor. Kikwit
Kikwit is the largest city of Kwilu Province, lying on the Kwilu River in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kikwit is also known in the region under the nickname "The Mother". The population is approximately 458,000 (2017). An important commercial centre, it is home to a stadium and is known for its traditional dances, in particular the Bapende dancers whose geographic origin centers on the village of Gungu. Bapende dancers often wear traditional costumes comprising colorful masks and attire made from raffia. History In 1995 the city saw a serious outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus. Singer King Kester Emeneya was born in Kikwit in 1956. In April 2014, a tribute concert held in Kikwit to honor King Kester Emeneya ended in disaster, and at least thirteen people in the stadium died in a stampede following a power failure. The University of Bandundu (UB) is a public university in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, located in the province of Bandundu, city of Bandundu. At its creation, it was an extension of the University of Kinshasa, then called ''University Centre of Bandundu (C.U.B.)''. As of 2012 it had 800 students in six faculties. Instruction is in French. Mushie
Mushie is a town in Mai-Ndombe province, Democratic Republic of the Congo The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), also known as the DR Congo, Congo-Kinshasa, or simply the Congo (the last ambiguously also referring to the neighbouring Republic of the Congo), is a country in Central Africa.
