Balaton Uplands National Park
In 1997 a protected ecological system embracing the adjoining area of the Balaton Uplands (the northern shore of Lake Balaton, Hungary) was established with the connection of the already protected areas which had been separate for a long time. The area of 56,997 hectares of the Balaton-felvidéki national park mainly consists of these six landscape protection areas. The national park is headquartered in Veszprém, the largest city of the Balaton area. Badacsonytomaj Látkép
Badacsonytomaj () is a town in the Hungarian county of Veszprém with 2,341 inhabitants, as of 2011. It is located at the eastern foot of the volcanic Badacsony hill along the Lake Balaton in Hungary. The greatest sight in the town is that of the hill itself, with its spectacular 60−70 m high basalt organs. The region around the town is well known for its high quality Hungarian wines. The town's name was recently used in a viral promotion by Sony to promote a new feature in their PlayStation Home, PlayStation 3 Home Service. The viral campaign consisted of billboards being placed around Europe with various letters on them. Players had to piece together the letters and use the resulting word as a code. Lake Hévíz
Lake Hévíz is located in Hévíz, Hungary, near the western end of Lake Balaton, from Keszthely. It is the largest swimmable thermal lake in the world ( in area), and is the second largest thermal lake in general, second to only the Frying Pan Lake in New Zealand, which is too hot for swimming. The flow of water is very strong and the water in the lake is completely replenished every 72 hours. Its minimum depth is 2 meters, reaching a maximum depth of 38 meters, exactly at the point where the hot thermal water comes out to the surface. Microscopic organisms of the lake The fauna and flora are unique in Lake Hévíz due to the temperature and chemical composition of the water, which contains carbonic acid, calcium, magnesium, hydrogen carbonate, reduced sulfuric compounds as well as oxygen in solution. Keszthely
Keszthely (; also known by alternative names) is a Hungarian city of 20,895 inhabitants located on the western shore of Lake Balaton. It is the second largest city by the lake and one of the more important cultural, educational and economic hubs in the region. Due to its favorable location and accessibility by both road and rail, Keszthely and the surrounding area is a preferred holiday destination. From the middle of the 5th century until the middle of the 7th century the Keszthely Culture flourished in the area. The Faculty for Agriculture of University of Pannonia is located in Keszthely. The House of Festetics (singular, not plural) or Feštetić (in Croatian) is the name of a historic noble family of Hungarian counts and princes which dates back to 15th century. A prominent family during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, they are mostly known for the baroque Festetics Palace and the Viennese Prince Tasziló Festetics. Badacsony
Badacsony () is the name of a region on the north shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary, a mountain top and a town in that region. The nearby basalt mountains are unique geological relics, and the habitat of many rare plants and animals. These monadnocks are peculiarly shaped results of volcanic activity, formed before the period wherein Pannonia was an active geologic unit. Badacsony is the central part of the Badacsony wine region. On the Badacsony mountain, poet Sándor Kisfaludy lived and first met his wife, Róza Szegedy. Lake Balaton () is a freshwater rift lake in the Transdanubian region of Hungary. It is the List of largest lakes of Europe, largest lake in Central Europe, and one of the region's foremost tourist destinations. The Zala River provides the largest inflow of water to the lake, and the canalized Sió is the only outflow.
