Badminton At The 2022 Commonwealth Games – Men's Doubles
The men's doubles badminton event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was held from 4 to 8 August 2022 at the National Exhibition Centre on the Solihull, England. The defending gold medalists were Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge of England. Ellis and Langridge did not defend their title. The athletes were drawn into straight knockout stage. The draw for the competition was conducted on 28 July 2022. National Exhibition Centre
The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) is an exhibition centre located in Marston Green, England, near to Birmingham and Solihull. It is near junction 6 of the M42 motorway, and is adjacent to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International railway station. It was opened by Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth II in 1976. History The NEC was originally going to be built adjacent to the M1 motorway (junction 21) near Leicester but it was turned down by Leicestershire County Council with claims that "The big shows won't move away from London". In November 1971, the Secretary of State for the Environment granted outline planning approval for the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Chan Peng Soon
Chan Peng Soon (born 27 April 1988) is a Malaysian former badminton player specialised in the mixed doubles event. He has had a partnership with Goh Liu Ying where they have been consistently ranked among the top 10 mixed doubles pair in the world. Chan and Goh reached a career high ranking of world number 3 in 2012 and won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Nyl Yakura
Nyl Kiyoshi Yakura (born 14 February 1993) is a Canadian badminton player. He captured two gold medals at the Pan American Games, winning the men's doubles title in 2019 and 2023, and also a silver in the mixed doubles in 2019. Yakura, who grew up in Pickering, Ontario, currently lives in Toronto and trains at the KC Badminton Club in Markham. He has Japanese and Indonesian heritage. Adam Dong
Adam Dong (; born 14 February 1994) is a Chinese-born Canadian badminton player. He captured the men's doubles gold medals at the 2023 Pan American Games and at the 2023 Pan Am Championships. Early life Dong was born in Suzhou, China. Before moving to Canada, he competed in the 2011 National Intercity Games of the People's Republic of China and won a gold in the badminton men's team event representing Nanjing. Career Dong entered the Canadian national team in 2016. On that same year, he partnered with Nyl Yakura. After the duo split up, he formed partnerships with Guoxing Huang and David Wu. He later partnered with Yakura again in 2021 and they won their first international title together at the Mexican International Series.
