Badminton At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Singles
These are the results of the men's singles competition in badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The tournament consisted of a single-elimination tournament. Matches were played using a best-of-three games format. Games were played to 21 points, using rally scoring. Each game had to be won by a margin of two points, except when the game was won by a player who reached 30 even if the lead was only 1 at that point. The top eight seeds in the tournament were placed in the bracket so as not to face each other until the quarterfinals. All other competitors were placed by draw. Beijing University Of Technology Gymnasium
The Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium () is an indoor arena located on the campus of the Beijing University of Technology in the Chaoyang District, Beijing, Chaoyang District in Beijing, China. The gymnasium hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics Badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics, badminton and Gymnastics at the 2008 Summer Olympics, rhythmic gymnastics events. The gymnasium seating capacity is 7,500 and has a floor space of 2700 square metres. After the Olympic Games, it has served as a training facility for Chinese badminton teams and also as a sports and recreational activities centre for students and local communities. John Moody (badminton)
John David Moody (born 21 February 1983) is a New Zealand badminton player. In 2002 and 2004 he won the Fiji International, in 2005 the Ballarat Eureka International and the Waikato International, and in 2006 the North Harbour International and the Waikato International. He represented New Zealand at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and 2008 Summer Olympics. At the Commonwealth Games, Moody reaching in to the third round in the men's singles event, quarterfinalists in the men's doubles event, and also the semi-finalists in the mixed team event. He won a match in the bronze medal match against the Indian team, but his team was defeated 3–1. At the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Moody was defeated in the second round by Chinese player Chen Jin in straight games with the score 9–21, 11–21. Kaveh Mehrabi (; born 5 May 1982) is a former professional Iranian badminton player. Career Mehrabi was born in Tehran, Iran, and on April 10, 2003 he moved to Copenhagen, Denmark to become the first Iranian professional badminton player and practice at the International Badminton Academy. Stuart Gomez
Stuart Gomez(born 15 November 1982 in Sydney) is a male badminton player from Australia. Gomez played the 2007 BWF World Championships in men's singles, and was defeated in the first round by Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, of Malaysia, 21–8, 21–7. He represented Australia at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, but was defeated in the first round by Erwin Kehlhoffner, of France, 19–21, 22–20, 21–15. Erwin Kehlhoffner (born 6 December 1983 in Strasbourg) is a badminton player from France affiliated with ASL Robertsau club. Career In the junior event, he won the national singles title in 2002, and also the doubles titles in 2001 and 2002. Kehlhoffner competed at the 2005 World Championships in the men's singles and doubles event, but was defeated in the first round both in singles and doubles event. He also qualified to play at the 2006 World Championships in the men's doubles event with his partner Thomas Quéré, but the duo defeated by the German players in the first round. Edwin Ekiring (born 22 December 1986) is a Ugandan badminton player, nicknamed "The Black Pearl". He is tall and weighs . Career At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, Ekiring competed in the men's singles as well as the mixed team event. In the singles he was defeated in the first round, 17–21, 17–21 by Sri Lankan Dinuka Karunaratne.
