''My Father and My Son'' () is a 2005 Turkish drama film written and directed by ÇaÄŸan Irmak about a family torn apart by the 1980 Turkish coup d'état. The film which went on nationwide release on became one of the highest-grossing Turkish films in history. Plot In order to study journalism at Istanbul University, Sadık leaves his village on the Aegean coast. This angers his father, Hüseyin, who wants him to study Agricultural Engineering so he can manage the family farm. During his years at university Sadık becomes a militant in left wing politics. Upon learning about Sadık's behavior, Hüseyin disowns him. However worse days are ahead for Sadık. ÇaÄŸan Irmak (born 4 April 1970) is a Turkish people, Turkish film and television writer and director, who has managed to attract a large audience in Turkey and is best known for the TV series ''Çemberimde Gül Oya'' (2004–2005) and ''Asmalı Konak'' (2002–2004), and for the hit films ''Alone (2008 film), Alone'' (2008) and ''My Father and My Son'' (2005), for which he received Turkish Cinema Writers Association Awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Director. Deniz GezmiÅŸ (, 27 February 1947 – 6 May 1972) was a Turkish Marxist-Leninist revolutionary, student leader, and political activist in Turkey in the late 1960s.
