BC Astana
Astana Basketball Club (), commonly referred to as BC Astana, is a Kazakh professional basketball club that is based in Astana, Kazakhstan. Founded in 2011, it has competed in the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship and the VTB United League since, obtaining many domestic titles in the process. History BC Astana was created in March 2011, with the aim of competing in the VTB United League. Valery Tikhonenko was chosen as the team's general director. There were doubts expressed by other clubs in the VTB United League, about whether or not the club would be a good addition to the competition, due to the lack of basketball tradition in Kazakhstan; but the side answered all the admission requirements, including their budget, stadium (a revamped Saryarka Velodrome) and the proximity of hotels, and an international airport. Kazakhstan Basketball Championship
The Kazakhstan Basketball Championship () is the highest professional basketball league in Kazakhstan, organised by the National Basketball Federation Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is a member of FIBA Asia, as the country lies partly in Asia, and Kazakhstan Championship sides have played in the competitions such as the FIBA Asia Champions Cup and the West Asia Super League. However, the country also partly lies in Europe, and the league's teams have participated in FIBA Europe competitions such as the FIBA EuroChallenge and the FIBA Europe Cup. The league's clubs therefore are also eligible, and often compete, in the Eastern European regional leagues such as the Baltic Basketball League, Baltic League and the VTB United League. Devin Davis (born March 29, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for Hangtuah Jakarta of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL). He played college basketball for Indiana, Odessa College and Houston. High school career Davis attended Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. College career Davis began his collegiate career at Indiana. He was involved in a serious car accident that left him hospitalized in November 2014. In May 2015, he was dismissed from Indiana after being cited for possession of marijuana. Davis transferred to Odessa College in Texas. He earned junior college All-American honors while averaging 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Davis transferred to Houston, choosing the Cougars over offers from Iowa State, Temple, Cincinnati, Purdue and Ole Miss. Dmitri Alexandrovich Gavrilov (; born 27 November 1986) is a Kazakhstani professional basketball player. He plays for BC Astana of the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship and the VTB United League. Professional career The Alma-Ata native started his career with home town side CSKA Almaty, staying there until 2008 when he was loaned to Barsy Atyrau. In June 2009 he joined the Astana Tigers, the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship title holders. He played with the side in the 2010 FIBA Asia Champions Cup, scoring 26 points (including 8 in overtime) to help the Kazakhstani's overcome Smart Gilas in the group stage. After helping the Tigers win another championship, Gavrilov extended his contract for a year in June 2010. He would post 11 points and 7.9 rebounds in the championship during the season.
