''Bambi'' is a 1942 American Animated film, animated Coming of age, coming-of-age drama film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. Loosely based on Felix Salten's 1923 novel ''Bambi, a Life in the Woods'', the production was supervised by David Hand (animator), David D. Hand, and was directed by a team of sequence directors, including James Algar, Bill Roberts, Norman Wright, Sam Armstrong, Paul Satterfield, and Graham Heid. The main characters are Bambi (character), Bambi, a white-tailed deer; his parents (the Great Prince of the forest and his unnamed mother); his friends Thumper (Bambi), Thumper (a pink-nosed rabbit); and Flower (a skunk); and his childhood friend and future mate, Faline. Bambi, A Life In The Woods
''Bambi, a Life in the Woods'' () is a 1923 Austrian coming-of-age novel written by Felix Salten, and originally published in Berlin by Ullstein Verlag. The novel traces the life of Bambi, a male roe deer, from his birth through childhood, the loss of his mother, the finding of a mate, the lessons he learns from his father, and the experience he gains about the dangers posed by human hunters in the forest. It is also, in its most complete translation, seen as a parable of the dangers and persecution faced by Jews in Europe. An English translation by Whittaker Chambers was published in North America by Simon & Schuster in 1928, and the novel has since been translated and published in over thirty languages around the world. Salten published a sequel, ''Bambi's Children'', in 1939. The novel was well received by critics and is considered a classic, as well as one of the first environmental novels. Bambi (character)
Bambi is the title character in Felix Salten's 1923 novel, ''Bambi, a Life in the Woods'', and its sequel, ''Bambi's Children.'' The character also appears in Salten's novels ''Perri (novel), Perri'' and ''Fifteen Rabbits''. Early German language, German-language editions of the novels were illustrated by Hans Bertle. In the Disney film adaptations, Bambi's species was changed from a roe deer to a white-tailed deer, which would be more familiar to American audiences. Thumper (Bambi)
Thumper is a fictional rabbit character from Disney's animated film ''Bambi'' (1942). He is known and named for his habit of thumping his left hind foot. The character was an important influence upon the development of the movie ''Bambi'' which started production with an adult tone which seemed too serious and uncommercial. As voiced by the young actor, four-year-old Peter Behn, the vivacious character of Thumper was expanded from its original minor role and led to a focus upon the young animals in the story. Felix Salten (; 6 September 1869 – 8 October 1945) was an Austrian author and Literary criticism, literary critic. His most famous work is ''Bambi, a Life in the Woods'', which was adapted into an animated feature film, ''Bambi'', by Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Productions in 1942. Early life Salten was born Siegmund Salzmann on 6 September 1869 in Pest, Hungary, Pest, Austria-Hungary. Lawrence L. Morey (March 26, 1905 – May 8, 1971) was an American lyricist and screenwriter. David Dodd Hand (January 23, 1900 – October 11, 1986) was an American animator and animation filmmaker known for his work at Walt Disney Productions. He worked on numerous Disney shorts during the 1930s and eventually became supervising director on the animated features ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'' and ''Bambi''.
