Athletics At The 1984 Summer Olympics – Men's 400 Metres
The men's 400 metres was an event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. It was held from August 4 to August 8. Eighty athletes from 56 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Alonzo Babers, returning the United States to the top of the podium for the first time since 1972 (and the 13th time overall). Gabriel Tiacoh won the Ivory Coast's first Olympic medal in any event, with a silver. Background This was the twentieth appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics. None of the finalists from 1980 returned. The favorites were Bert Cameron of Jamaica (winner of the first world championship in 1983) and Americans Antonio McKay and Alonzo Babers. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (also known as the L.A. Coliseum) is a multi-purpose stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Conceived as a hallmark of civic pride, the Coliseum was commissioned in 1921 as a memorial to Los Angeles veterans of World War I. Nordin Mohd Jadi (born 12 May 1962 in Muar, Johor, Malaysia) is a former Malaysia track runner and athlete who represented Malaysia in many international and regional events and championships in the 1980s. His favourite athletic events were the 200 metre and 400 metre track events. Achievement in Olympic Games Nordin represented Malaysia in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. His personal best for the 200m event was 21.4 seconds, made in 1983. For the 400m event it was 46.56 seconds, made in 1987. David Kitur (born October 12, 1962) is a retired Kenyan runner, who specialised in 400 metres. In 1983, at the inaugural world championships he was part of the Kenyan 4x400 metres relay team, which reached semifinals. He competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics, in 400 metres and 4x400 metres race, reaching semifinals in both. At the 1987 All-Africa Games, held in Nairobi, Kenya, he finished second behind Innocent Egbunike of Nigeria. He finished sixth in the 400 metres race at the 1987 World Championships. The Kenyan 4 × 400 m relay team, which he was part of, finished 5th. At the 1990 African Championships in Athletics 400 metres race he finished second behind his younger brother Samson Kitur.
