Ashland is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,202 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Around Ashland are the smaller towns and townships of Masardis, Oxbow Plantation, Portage, Nashville Plantation, and Garfield Plantation. Most soils in the area have stony silt loam texture and show classic podzol profile development. History For thousands of years, Native American tribes inhabited this region. In the 1830s William Dalton became the first Euro-American to establish residency at the site of the future town. The community was organized as a plantation in 1840, at which time there were 40 heads of household listed. It was incorporated as a town in 1862, under the name of Ashland. Ashland is a town in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 66 at the 2010 census. History Residents of the young community applied for a United States Post Office to be established using the name "Pearl City." Postal officials did not agree to their choice of names, doubtless because of the existence of a post office at Pearl in Woodward County, Oklahoma Territory. Federal officials were already anticipating the union of the "twin territories" into a single state, and postal officials did not want two post offices in the same state using such similar names. They substituted Ashland instead, and a post office opened at Ashland, Indian Territory on October 1, 1902. Ashland is a city in and the county seat of Ashland County, Ohio, United States, 66 miles southwest of Cleveland and 82 miles northeast of Columbus. The population was 20,362 at the 2010 census. It is the center of the Ashland Micropolitan Statistical Area (as defined by the United States Census Bureau in 2003). Ashland is a town in Chemung County, New York, United States. The population was 1,515 at the 2020 census. The town is named after the home of Henry Clay. Ashland is on the southern border of the county, south of Elmira. It is part of the Elmira Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1779, the Battle of Newtown, a consequence of the Sullivan Expedition, was fought in the north part of the town. The first settlers arrived ''circa'' 1788. Ashland is a census-designated place (CDP) and the main village in the town of Ashland in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population of the CDP was 1,082 at the 2020 census, out of 1,938 in the entire town. Geography The CDP is in the southwestern part of the town of Ashland, on both sides of the Squam River, which descends through the center of town. The CDP is bordered to the south by the town of New Hampton and to the west by Interstate 93. Ashland is a city in Saunders County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,453 at the 2010 census. History Ashland is located at the site of a low-water limestone ledge along the bottom of Salt Creek, an otherwise mud-bottomed stream that was a formidable obstacle for wagon trains on the great westward migrations of the late 1840s and 1850s. The Oxbow Trail, a variant route of the Oregon Trail, ran from Nebraska City (on the Missouri River) to Fort Kearny (on the Platte River), where it joined the main route of the Oregon Trail. The limestone bottom of Salt Creek at Ashland made it an excellent fording site. Ashland was established in 1870 and named after Ashland, the estate of Henry Clay. Ashland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Rosebud County, Montana, United States. The population was 464 at the 2000 census. Ashland is immediately east of the boundary of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation and also along the Tongue River. It is the location of the St. Labre Indian Catholic High School, established in 1884 as a boarding school by a Catholic mission to the Cheyenne.
