Arizona's 8th Congressional District Special Election, 2012
A 2012 special election in Arizona's 8th congressional district was held on June 12, with primary elections held on April 17, to fill a seat in the United States House of Representatives for Arizona's 8th congressional district until the 112th United States Congress ends on January 3, 2013. The election was caused by the resignation of Representative Gabby Giffords on January 25, 2012, to concentrate on recovering from her injuries from the 2011 Tucson shooting. The seat was won by Ron Barber, a former aide to Giffords who was wounded in the attempt on her life. Arizona's 8th Congressional District
Arizona's 8th congressional district is a congressional district located in the U.S. state of Arizona. It includes many of the suburbs north and west of Phoenix, in Maricopa County, Arizona. The district includes several high-income retirement communities, including Sun City West. After redistricting for the 2012 general election, the new 8th district encompasses most of the Maricopa County portion of the old 2nd district, while most of the former 8th district became the 2nd congressional district. It is the geographic and demographic successor of the old 2nd; while the 4th district contains most of the old 2nd's land, more than 92 percent of the old 2nd's constituents were drawn into the 8th. Martha McSally
Martha Elizabeth McSally (born March 22, 1966) is an American politician and former military pilot who served as a United States senator for Arizona from 2019 to 2020. A member of the Republican Party, she served as the U.S. representative for Arizona's 2nd congressional district from 2015 to 2019. McSally served in the United States Air Force from 1988 to 2010, achieving the rank of Colonel. She is the first U.S. woman to fly in combat and also the first to command a fighter squadron. The 2010 congressional elections in Arizona were held on November 2, 2010, to determine who would represent the U.S. state, state of Arizona in the United States House of Representatives. Arizona had eight seats in the House, apportioned according to the 2000 United States Census. Representatives were elected for two-year terms; those elected were to serve in the 112th United States Congress, 112th Congress from January 3, 2011 until January 3, 2013. The state's 2009-2010 delegation consisted of five Democrats and three Republicans. With the exception of Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick, who had won the open seat in District 1 during the previous election, all members of the delegation were incumbents who had served for at least a full term in Congress. Frank Ronald Antenori is an American politician who was a Republican member of the Arizona Senate, based in Tucson, Arizona. Early life, education, and military career Frank Antenori was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating from high school in 1984. In 1987, he volunteered for the Special Forces Green Berets. In the late 1980s he trained Afghan " Mujahadeen Fighters" to fight against the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. He then served in the first Iraq War (Desert Storm). Ten years later, he was deployed in War in Afghanistan (2001–present) in 2002 and fought in Operation Anaconda. William Warren Bradley (born July 28, 1943) is an American politician and former professional basketball player. He served three terms as a Democratic U.S. senator from New Jersey (1979–1997). He ran for the Democratic Party's nomination for president in the 2000 election, which he lost to Vice President Al Gore. KMSB (channel 11) is a television station in Tucson, Arizona, United States, affiliated with the Fox network. It is owned by Tegna Inc. alongside MyNetworkTV affiliate KTTU (channel 18); Tegna maintains a shared services agreement (SSA) with Gray Television, owner of CBS affiliate KOLD-TV (channel 13), for the provision of studio space and technical services and the production of local newscasts for KMSB.
