Antigua And Barbuda Cadet Corps
The Antigua and Barbuda National Cadet Corps (ABNCC) is a voluntary youth organization open to students between the ages of 12 and 19 in Antigua and Barbuda. It is part of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force. It is sponsored by the government of Antigua and Barbuda. Its main objective is to provide training and personal development to youth through both military and community activities. The training is geared to inspire young men and women to become model citizens. Emphasis during training is based on discipline, loyalty, leadership and good citizenry. This is often acquired though a completed training course of being an active member in the Corps. Presently, the cadet corps has around 200 active members. The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) is the armed forces of Antigua and Barbuda. The ABDF has responsibility for several different roles: internal security, prevention of drug smuggling, the protection and support of fishing rights, prevention of marine pollution, search and rescue, ceremonial duties, assistance to government programs, provision of relief during natural disasters, assistance in the maintenance of essential services, and support of the police in maintaining law and order. The ABDF is one of the world's smallest militaries, consisting of 245 personnel. It is much better equipped for fulfilling its civil roles, as opposed to providing a deterrence against would-be aggressors or in defending the nation during a war. The Antigua and Barbuda Regiment is the infantry unit and main fighting arm of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force. Previously known as the Rifle Company, it was formed in 1995 and consists of a single light infantry battalion, commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel and made up of four company (military unit), companies: *Headquarters (HQ) Company *A Company: Regular infantry *B Company: Volunteers *C Company: Combat Support The regiment main weapons include M16 rifle, M-16 rifles and M60 machine gun, M60 machine guns.
