The Ansel Adams Award for Photography, formally called Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, named in honor of American photographer Ansel Adams, is a photography award administered by the Sierra Club. John Fielder
John Fielder (born 1950) is an American landscape photographer, nature writer, publisher of over 40 books, and conservationist. He is nationally known for his landscape photography, scenic calendars (which have been published for over 30 years) and for his many coffee table books and travel guides—including Colorado's best-selling ''Colorado 1870–2000'', in which he matches the same scenes of classic photographs taken in the 19th century by photographer William Henry Jackson. Fielder has won the Colorado Book Award three times, in 1996, 1997, and 2000. In January 2023, Fielder released the entirety of his over 5,000 photographs into the public domain, with History Colorado as caretaker. Wilbur Mills (photographer)
Wilbur Daigh Mills (May 24, 1909 – May 2, 1992) was an American Democratic politician who represented in the United States House of Representatives from 1939 until his retirement in 1977. As chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee from 1958 to 1974, he was often called "the most powerful man in Washington". Born in Kensett, Arkansas, Mills pursued a legal career and helped run his father's bank after three years at Harvard Law School, when he returned to Kensett he also assisted his father at the AP Mills General Store, as he had done for many years. Gary Braasch
Gary Braasch (1944 – March 7, 2016) was an American environmental photographer and writer focusing on nature and biodiversity across the globe. Braasch was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and made his home in Oregon. Work Braasch has been photographing for over 40 years and has been published by ''Time'', ''Life'', ''The New York Times Magazine'', ''Discover'', ''National Geographic'', ''Nature'', and many more. Braasch has also won the 2006 Ansel Adams Award from the Sierra Club and the Outstanding Nature Photographer citation from the North American Nature Photography Association. The California Coastal Records Project, founded in 2002, documents the California coastline with aerial photos taken from a helicopter flying parallel to the shore. Their webpage provides access to these images. One photo was taken every 500 feet. The entire California coast is included, except sections of Vandenberg Space Force Base (although some historical photos are included from an earlier survey in 1989). Most of the coast has been photographed several times, and the website has an interface for comparing photos taken during different years. Douglas Steakley
Douglas Steakley (born March 21, 1944 in Ashtabula, Ohio) is a metalsmith and photographer who won the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography in 2003. Career Steakley has a BA from Bowling Green State University and studied jewelry design and silversmithing at Indiana University, where he received a master of fine arts degree. In 1974, he traveled to Denmark to learn holloware techniques. His work is featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum collection. In 1979, he wrote ''Holloware Techniques'', a book published by Watson-Guptill Publications. He was the president of the , from 1989 to 1991. Clyde Butcher (born September 6, 1942) is an American large-format camera photographer known for wilderness photography of the Florida landscape. He began his career doing color photography before switching to large-scale black-and-white landscape photography after the death of his son.
