Alexander Seton, 1st Earl of Huntly (died 15 July 1470), who adopted the family name of Gordon from about 1457, was a powerful 15th-century Scottish magnate. He was knighted in 1439/1440 and was Lord of Badenoch, Gordon, Strathbogie and Cluny. Alexander Gordon (British Staff Officer)
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Alexander Gordon (1786 – 18 June 1815) was a Scottish officer in the British Army who was killed at the Battle of Waterloo. His correspondence was collated and published early in the early 21st century. Life Gordon was the third son of George Gordon, Lord Haddo, son of George Gordon, 3rd Earl of Aberdeen, and Charlotte Baird. His brothers were Prime Minister George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen, and Sir Robert Gordon. He joined the military campaign against Napoleon during the Battle of Corunna in 1808 as the Aide-de-camp to his uncle, General Sir David Baird, 1st Baronet. He then became ADC to Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington for the next six years, until he was killed at Waterloo. Military Gordon received brevet promotions to Major and Lieutenant-Colonel as a reward for carrying to London despatches announcing victory, first at the Battle of Corunna and then at Ciudad Rodrigo. Alexander Gordon (brewer)
Alexander Gordon (1818–1895) was a Scottish brewer and philanthropist. He was born in Glen Girnock, Aberdeenshire and studied an apprenticeship in Dundee. Shortly after turning 18 Gordon was placed in charge of a brewery in Aberdeen and later worked at the Lochnagar distillery. He moved to London and founded the Messrs. Gordons Brewery in Islington in 1852. Gordon opened a second brewery in Peckham and grew wealthy before his retirement in 1891. Gordon donated money to improve Ballater, a village near his birthplace. His donations enabled the erection of a church, two halls and the Polhollick bridge. Gordon had no children and his estate paid to construct the Cambus O' May bridge after his death. Early life Gordon was born in 1818 at Littlemill, Glen Girnock, Aberdeenshire. Alexander Esmé Gordon (12 September 1910 – 31 May 1993) was a Scottish Modernist architect, writer, and painter who served as Secretary of the Royal Scottish Academy between 1973 and 1978. Born in Edinburgh and educated at Edinburgh Academy and Edinburgh College of Art, Gordon worked as an assistant at Burnet, Tait, and Lorne before setting up his own practice in Edinburgh with James Robertson. During the Second World War, Gordon served in the Royal Engineers. In 1946, he formed a partnership with William Gordon Dey. Family background Sir Alexander was born in County Down on 28 July 1882, the son of Ada Austen Eyre and Alexander Hamilton Miller Haven Gordon, DL of Florida Manor, Killinchy and Delamont, Killyleagh. Alexander Theodore Gordon (11 May 1881 – 6 March 1919) was a Scottish Unionist Party politician. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Aberdeen and Kincardine Central in the 1918 General Election, but died two months later. He joined the Gordon Highlanders as second lieutenant on 30 June 1900, and served in the Second Boer War in 1900–01; taking part in the operations in the Transvaal, east of Pretoria, from July to November 1900, and later in the Orange River Colony. He was promoted to lieutenant on 21 February 1902. The war ended in June 1902, and Gordon left Cape Town on the SS ''Scot'' in September, returning home.
