Adventures In Odyssey
''Adventures in Odyssey'' (AIO), or simply ''Odyssey'', is an Evangelical Christian radio drama and comedy series created and produced by Focus on the Family. Aimed at families with children age 12 and younger, the series first aired in 1987 as a 13-episode pilot called ''Family Portraits'' and has over 947 episodes to date. In 2005, the show's daily audience averaged around 1.2 million within North America. The ''Odyssey'' radio series also includes several spin-off items, including a home-video series, several computer games, books, and devotionals. The series is set in the fictional town of Odyssey. Stories center around the people who live there, particularly ice-cream and discovery emporium owner John Avery Whittaker, who was originally voiced by Hal Smith. Radio Comedy
Radio comedy, or comedic radio programming, is a radio broadcast that may involve variety show, sitcom elements, sketches, and various types of comedy found in other media. It may also include more surreal or fantastic elements, as these can be conveyed on a small budget with just a few sound effects or some simple dialogue. Radio comedy began in the United States in 1930, based on the fact that as most United Kingdom music hall comedians such as Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel progressed to silent films, they moved to Hollywood and fed the radio comedy field. James Dobson
James Clayton Dobson Jr. (born April 21, 1936) is an American evangelical Christian author, psychologist, and founder of Focus on the Family (FOTF), which he led from 1977 until 2010. In the 1980s he was ranked as one of the most influential spokesmen for conservative social positions in American public life. Although never an ordained minister, he was called "the nation's most influential evangelical leader" by ''The New York Times'' while ''Slate'' portrayed him as a successor to evangelical leaders Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. Jonathan George Crowe (born 1979) is an Australian legal philosopher. He is Professor of Law at Bond University. Crowe is recognised internationally for his work on legal philosophy, ethics and public law. He is a proponent of natural law theory in jurisprudence and ethics. Nathan Hoobler (born November 2, 1979) is an American writer, director, and producer for the Focus on the Family-created radio drama, ''Adventures in Odyssey''. Nathan grew up listening to Adventures in Odyssey and even started his own fansite about the show before being hired by Focus on the Family. He has a degree in Media Communication from Asbury College. In addition to his other roles, Nathan produced the bonus features for The Gold Audio Series. and has authored 2 books for the series. Career In 1999, Nathan started the AIOHQ website and in the summer of 2000, got the opportunity to work with the Adventures in Odyssey team for a few months.
