About An Inquest
''About an Inquest'' (french: Autour d'une enquête) is a 1931 German crime film directed by Henri Chomette and Robert Siodmak and starring Annabella, Jean Périer and Colette Darfeuil. It was produced by UFA, as the French-language version of the studio's film ''Inquest''. Such multiple-language versions were common in the early years of sound before dubbing became widespread. It was shot at the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Erich Kettelhut. Sound Film
A sound film is a motion picture with synchronized sound, or sound technologically coupled to image, as opposed to a silent film. The first known public exhibition of projected sound films took place in Paris in 1900, but decades passed before sound motion pictures became commercially practical. Reliable synchronization was difficult to achieve with the early sound-on-disc systems, and amplification and recording quality were also inadequate. Innovations in sound-on-film led to the first commercial screening of short motion pictures using the technology, which took place in 1923. The primary steps in the commercialization of sound cinema were taken in the mid-to-late 1920s. At first, the sound films which included synchronized dialogue, known as "talking pictures", or "talkies", were exclusively shorts. Pierre Franckh (; born 1 May 1953 in Heilbronn, West Germany) is a German book author, motivational speaker, keynote speaker, entrepreneur, seminar leader, actor, and director. Biography Pierre Franckh is the youngest son of the actress Ursula Franckh and the director, actor, and translator of French literature Hans Heinz Franckh. Jacques Maury (10 November 1920 – 12 April 2020) was a French pastor. Biography Jacques was the son of Pierre Maury, a dogmatic professor at the Protestant Faculty of Theology in Paris. Pierre Maury introduced the ideas of Karl Barth in France. Maury's grandfather was Léon Maury, a professor at the Protestant Faculty of Theology in Montauban. Maury attended the Faculté de théologie protestante in Montpellier. During World War II, he worked for Cimade at the Camp de Rivesaltes and as an assistant military chaplain in the 2nd Armored Division. Maury became pastor of the Reformed Church in Lezay after the war. He was President of the French Federation of Christian Student Associations from 1957 to 1962, and then pastor at the Reformed Church in Poitiers. Gaston Modot (31 December 1887 – 20 February 1970) was a French actor. For more than 50 years he performed for the cinema working with a number of great French directors. Biography Modot lived in Montmartre at the beginning of the 20th century where he met Picasso and Modigliani. In 1909 he started his career with Gaumont and for the following 20 years he covered all silent film genres. In 1917 he was the main actor in Abel Gance's ''Mater dolorosa''. Florelle (born Odette Élisa Joséphine Marguerite Rousseau, 9 August 1898 – 28 September 1974) was a French soprano singer and actress. She gained fame as Polly Peachum in the French film ''The Threepenny Opera'', after which she had numerous other film roles. Erich Karl Heinrich Kettelhut (1 November 1893 – 13 March 1979) was a German production designer, Art director#In film, art director and set decorator. Kettelhut is considered one of the most important artists in the history of early German cinema, mainly for his set direction for ''Die Nibelungen'' (1924) and his design and visual effects for ''Metropolis (1927 film), Metropolis'' (1927).
